microsound - Profile (original) (raw)
on 3 July 2004 (#3687989)
This is a community for electronic/tape artists who are making recordings in the nebulous genre known as microsound (and its kindred genres ie. dark ambient, electroacoustic, acousmatic, musique concrète, noise, drone, generative, glitch). Since the definition of "microsound" is somewhat flexible and arbitrary, and the parameters are a source of endless debate, it's fair (in my opinion) to include ambient and glitch artists, as well as those who process field recordings and generate rhythms, textures, and soundscapes with noise and found sounds (phonography).
Fans/afficionados of these styles of music are also welcome, of course.
A well-respected source of information on the world of microsound music is the .microsound list. It's not exhaustive, and some people don't like it, but ya can't please everyone.
So, welcome. Be polite. Share ideas, essays, sound clips, release announcements, event announcements, critiques, reviews, and useful links. Promote yourself and your music. Have fun.
Picture policy: anything over 400x400 pixels not behind an lj-cut will be deleted.
Long posts: If you are reprinting articles or long essays, use the lj-cut after the first paragraph or two.
Check your issues at the door. Please, no zealots. I don't want flame wars over use of terminology, or apostolic successions, or whether such-and-such genre is played-out and dead. If you're not here to share and enjoy, go away.
