Blood flowing in human body is a series of complex networks working together in a logic circuit. This research describes the complex mechanisms of heart cycle in relation to the interrelationship between the chambers and valves, in a logical and one dimensional structure. Logical operators and tristate buffer are used to map the states of the chamber and valves as it relaxes/contracts and open/close respectively, in truth tables. Mathematical analysis is used to model the state and outflow behavior of heart cycle in discrete time.

Water samples were collected from the vicinity of the site with different metal concentration scenario. The concentration (µgL-1) of toxic metals/metalloids viz Cr 27.5±15.4, Mn 257.2±330.9, Co 0.5±0.5, Ni 4.0±2.3, As 18.4±12.6, Cu 5.3±5.0, Zn 292.7±466.7, Cd 0.2±0.5, Pb 1.0±0.4, V 36.8±16.8) were observed in above samples through estimation in dynamic reaction cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (DRC-ICP-MS). Human health was evaluated for potential non-carcinogenic hazard quotient (HQ) and carcinogenic risk (CR) for the nearby habitants considering all possible exposure routes. The cumulative hazard index (dermal and ingestion) for child (Σ HI = 4.26E+00) and adult (2.59E+00) reveals that toxic risk is beyond tolerable limit (HQ > 1.00). Arsenic was identified as the most significant pollutant of concern among the ten heavy metals; both its values of the HQ and CR indicated potentially undesirable health risks for the local residents. The estimated risk level for As exposure (3.56E-04) is exceeding the safe standard for cancer (CR=1.0E-6) unveil that residents confront higher risks, with carcinogenic effects that average 4 in 10,000. However, the cancer risk due to Pb exposure (1.11E-07) is within the target level.

Aim: The purpose of the present study was to formulate and evaluate Polysorbate 80 Coated Chitosan Nanoparticles of Rivastigmine for brain delivery. Methods: Rivastigmine is short acting cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI). Nanostructure mediated drug delivery enhances drug bioavailability, improves the timed release of drug molecules, and enables precision drug targeting. Because of its cationic charges, biocompatibility, and low toxicity, chitosan has been used as a vehicle system for genes, protein and drugs. The Nanoparticles were evaluated for size, shape, zeta potential, microscopy, transmission electron microscopy. Drug-polymer compatibility was determined using differential scanning calorimetry. The amount of drug entrapped within the Nanoparticles was determined spectrofluorometrically and in vitro drug release studies were done by spectrofluorometer. Test was used to evaluate in vivo activity of Rivastigmine Nanoparticles in mice. The drug-loading capacity obtained from the drug content analyses for the batches ranged from 43.48±3.5 to 52.62±4.31 depending upon the drug-to-polymer ratio. The drug loading of chitosan Nanoparticles (drug-to-polymer ratio 1:1) after coating with 1% Polysorbate 80 was 43.48±1.3. The particle size analysis showed that the mean particle size of drug-loaded Nanoparticles (drug-to-polymer ratio 1:1) was 45.16±1.56 nm.

Nineteen different symptoms (Non Specific Health Symptoms-NSHS), described as radiofrequency sickness, were studied by means of the chi-square test studies made in relation to the sex, age and distance from mobile phone base stations show significant (p <0.05) increase as compared to people living >300m or not exposed to base stations. Women respondents complained the feeling of nausea, sleep disturbances, irritability and the men complained the feeling of Back pain. Relation to age the respondents older than 19 years, this study shows, the existence of a greater sensibility of some NSHS symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, depressive tendencies ,irritability, feeling of discomfort, hearing problem, back pain when comparisons are made between subjects living up to 300m vs. subjects of the reference group. In relation to distance, the complaints were received in a significantly higher (p <0.05) proportions in the distance zones of 20m to 300m than the <20m from base stations. Up to 20m the symptoms are headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbance, feeling of discomfort, irritability, depressive tendencies, difficulty in concentration, movement difficulties, hearing problem, and back pain. Significant differences (P < 0.05) are observed up to 100 m from base stations for symptoms such as complained headaches, fatigue, felling of discomfort, irritability, depressive tendencies, difficulty in concentration, hearing problem, back pain. Beyond 200 m only the symptom of headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, irritability, movement difficulties, back pain is reported at a significantly high frequency (P < 0.05).

Research paper thumbnail of The Coefficient of Broad-Crested Weir in Natural Channels

Weirs have been designed and used extensively in hydraulic structures to control the flow depth a... more Weirs have been designed and used extensively in hydraulic structures to control the flow depth and discharge. To estimate the discharge over the weir, a weir coefficient is required. The discharge coefficient can be obtained experimentally as a function of the dimensionless total head of the approaching flow or as a function of various parameters. However, a universally acceptable discharge coefficient does not exist. Beside the man-made weirs that have been constructed by hydraulic engineers, some natural channel characteristics and slopes can be simulated as broad-crested weirs that are clearly noticeable in examining water surface profiles. The study area is Centralia watershed in Central Florida, which contains several cascades of step like waterfalls that can be selected for transecting. Cross-section data from 5 transects and detailed hydraulic data was obtained using the Digital terrain model (DTM) and the Triangular Irregular Network (TIN). The Hydrologic Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) step-backwater technique was used to calculate water surface profiles for natural channels that are likely used for storm water drainage. The results show that these channels have chains of steps that dissipate the momentum of falling water in steep areas and maintain a steady rate of flow. The weir coefficients were determined by comparing the steady state discharges to the equivalent weir discharges. The results indicate that the weir coefficient can be expressed as a function of weir height and channel cross-section area. The relationship between this function and the weir coefficient showed a high correlation with R 2 = 0.991. The results of this study can be used to estimate the discharge in similar reaches in any water surface profile.
