But if you read the manga, or you like yaoi, you will find it very enjoyable. I gave it a 10 for enjoyment because I really had fallen for the manga and the anime was just another animated version that you will... love as well!Hope you love it as much as I did! And there's a list of reasons why, and I'm going to be blunt. The story had little depth. The emotions portraryed were often uneven or strange and made gay or bi guys seem to be dumb whether they were complete "bags", silly or gutless or that it is necessary to apologize for loving someone of your own gender or its a mistake. The backgrounds of the characters were too brief. Conversely, when they do give some background, such as in the case of Madarame, the reptile guy, what they did... tell was so mixed: sometimes sensitive, sometimes a total ass...made no sense (even though, yes I did get the madadurai/non-madadurai aspect) . Or he's abusive to others, the so-called tough guy, then he gets punked out and embarrassed himself and does nothing! I could understand some shaky parts, as far as story goes, but it it too uneven too often throughout.Yes, this is BL for those who can't have gay sex (m/m) themselves or don't really know about it or who don't care that it is even passably accurate in any way. Foreplay is a definition that should be reserved for hetero sex. Generally we don't need foreplay to want to do the deed. We can get it done and then do it again (especially at the characters ages), so the lamenting of "wait for me next time" is completely stupid and doesn't apply. That being said, I could get the comical aspects of some of the "sex scenes" but I entirely get tired of yaoi that tiresomely puts forth a guy will only have sex with another if they are raped, and that they like or accept it as normal somewhat or afterwards. And if it wasn't that, the scenes were boring.Shiro, the regular human, was especially boring to me though I liked the cat spirited guy out of all of them all, Norio. I could see where the idea of the storyline might be intriguingly different but so many ideas or suggestions was too sketchy, moving so quickly point to point: sex, conversations, confrontations: almost total incoherence. Most of the time I was asking myself, why characters were saying or doing a certain thing, because it made no sense! I didn't understand why it had this title either. A few laughs and cute moments provided by Norio, but as some others have had, nothing special and the frequent misrepresentations of gay love and relationships is totally unacceptable. Many bad messages, and hope no one believes that how gay love is or that its normal like these poor examples. Sex Pistols could have been so much more but was just too flawed in my opinion. Even without one though, the brilliant animation was enough to get me hooked. Who isn't tired of the crappy cut and paste type animation of some yaoi. Really happy to see that they put a good effort into that. The story line is very interesting, a little confusing if you haven't read the manga, but you get the jist of it anyways. Quite refreshing. All the characters are different and each lovable on their own terms. GIANT kudos to Norio, I adore the fact that unlike most uke's, he doesn't spend hours... whispering that he doesn't want it when he obviously does. That was another big point for me. Story: BrilliantArt: SuperbSound: ExcellentCharacter: Loved em allEnjoyment: Through the roof, only I'm really sad its so short...Overall : =DIf you love a good, sweet, not too heavy plotted yaoi, you will love this. You have to watch all the way through to get an understanding of it.If you've never watched a yaoi anime I suggest trying out something mainstream first.I really liked this and I would gladly re-watch it.This yaoi has females to help with the plot and story! I'm very glad the writers included women because they are usually forgotten in yaoiStory 6I wish they would've explained what was going on with the animal... spirits because when Norio suddenly turned into a cat I was very confused. As the story goes on you are able to pick up on what's happening. The main couple don't have a dramatic sex scene, unlike most yaoi, however I think that the romances throughout the other couples made up for it.Art 9No big yaoi hands! The anatomy is closer to an actual human's in the anime so I enjoyed that. The colors they used really helped pull the story together. I thought it was adorable that the second opening was a chibi version of the first. Over all pretty good but not perfect. I like the way the boys and girls were drawn, both genders were very attractive and sexy.Sound 9I had no problem with it considering that I watched it on YouTube. I think that they picked great voice actors for the characters. Music was alright not breathtaking, but hey... it's just an OVA.Character 7The characters were very two-demensional, and I feel that Yonekuni and Shiro should have grown up a little bit. Yonekuni on sudden whim changed his mind and it was actually kind of confusing? The character design was nice and they drew them based on animals, so the size and hair color varies. The characters were easy to tell apart and were unique.Enjoyment 9This was really fun to watch, it was my first yaoi OVA so it was a nice switch from a series. I'm the kind of person who has to be hooked on the first episode so having the plot all take place in one sitting was nice. I would definitely re-watch this. Overall 8I enjoyed the characters and the art, the overall OVA is a nice break from yaoi series. It doesn't matter if you've read the manga or not - as long as you watch from beginning to end you'll understand it. The comedy and romance is awesome. I just loved this story and it will definetly Reviewer’s Rating: 8 What did you think of this review? I'll never understand why these kinda of series try and have emotional depth but bounce back to 'tee-hee silly chibi faces', either; even if I was genuinely watching these kinds of series (my friends and I just look up the worst ones we can find while we get drunk) it would drive me up the wall. The worldbuilding was stupid because everyone might as well... have been these animal spirit people instead of introducing this concept, which I assume was poorly built to give them an excuse to force some mpreg in there.Nothing says 'getting fujoshi hot and bothered' by parasite-induced ass babies.Points for having a character named 'McBear' though. NiceNice0 Love itLove it0 FunnyFunny0 ConfusingConfusing0 InformativeInformative0 Well-writtenWell-written0 CreativeCreative0Show all Dec 4, 2017 In no way, shape, or form is 'Sex Pistols' a fantastic anime. That being said, it's not the worst, either. You won't be doing yourself a disservice nor a service by watching it, but it'd be good for a laugh with friends. Unfortunately, I watched this alone, so I read too deeply into it and decided to write a review. Go me.First and foremost, I'd recommend reading the manga if you want to know why things are happening. The first one or two volumes, anyway. Some find it easy to understand without doing so, yet, I think it's much better to have a more thorough... understanding going into it, since the main concept isn't explicitly explained well until the end of episode one, after the credits. If you're in it for a laugh, you'll be fine without the extra reading. Honestly, it was too much effort for such a little reward.Given the premise, I'm a little sad that we weren't able to get a better look at their "souls". Kunimasa's "soul" is really nifty to look at, and the combination of cat and monkey for Norio was really well done, I think. Unfortunately, this only gives us little peeks at the two; and, for most characters, we only see their ears and tail. Additionally, I'm not a fan of the way Madararui were explained. I think that a few more of the details behind Madararui should have been made clear within the OVA. It's mostly addressed in the first episode, but that little segment after the credits should have been either: Halfway, as a transition between scenes; or somewhere near the beginning of episode one. Not at the very end. That way, those who are newer to 'Sex Pistols' have a better understanding of what's going on sooner.Similarly, whist the scenes made a understandable story, a lot of the scenes either went for too long or not long enough given their context. Some should have been way shorter than they were, and others needed just a little more context to make them better. The way a handful of more intimate moments were handled made me wince. Especially when Norio and Kunimasa were in the restaurant together. It could've been comedic, but instead they went for a more romantic approach, which I do not think worked at all.The art definitely isn't the best, nor the most beautiful; but, for a yaoi, it's certainly pleasant to look at. The characters didn't have fish lips, and they didn't have same-face syndrome, which was a relief. The colours, whilst not vibrant, aren't too dull. Additionally, they did a good job at establishing and adding to settings that weren't really elaborated upon in the manga. Something I found satisfying. It was nice getting a bit more of an idea of where they were.Voice acting was okay. Most scenes were fine. Nothing terribly outstanding. The main issue I had with the voice acting was President's... reactions. In all honesty, he sounded like he was hyperventilating, rather than enjoying himself. Otherwise, his acting in other scenes was okay.Music was repetitive and sometimes unfitting. Especially with this one track which had this... romantic harp strumming along. Every time it played, it took me away from the moment. The first time it played, my reaction was "Wait, seriously?". I didn't think it'd play again after that, but it did, and each time I noticed it and was thrown out of the moment. It reminds me of the big reveal of a shoujo protagonist in her pretty dress for her date or whatever. Not whatever the heck was on screen in this yaoi. The characters were pretty much the same as in the manga. Crap. To me, they don't feel real. They fall in love or forgive things way too easily, and, in a way, it felt like I was watching a well-animated fanfiction.I decided to watch this, since I felt like a new yaoi to watch, rather than read. The fool that I was thought "Eh, it won't be too bad to read some manga for it", so I did. Was it worth it? Not really. I didn't mind reading the manga to get more context, but it didn't really feel rewarding. There was no "Oh, hey! I loved this bit"-moments, and it wasn't, in any way, better to see the characters kissing in colour. I'd say it was a bit worse, really. Still, to be fair, I didn't have a dreadful time watching it. I just wasn't having fun. It more or less felt like I was watching something that just happened to be on TV, except I had the hope that "maybe it'll get a bit better". It didn't. What you see is what you get, really. As an OVA, I'd deem 'Sex Pistols' somewhat successful. Normally, OVAs either encourage watchers to experience the manga (or other original material); or, in a sense, reward readers with scenes being brought to life in one way or another. For me, this was the latter. Wonderful OVAs can allow room for both to happen marvellously, but this was just sort of a "Well, at least I know what's going on now, and it looks a lot better than the chapters I read. I can tell who's who, at least." I wasn't happy to see things in animated form. It's just the same dog, different leg-action. Big whoop. If it weren't for the interesting premise of the unique animal twist, and the peculiar name, 'Sex Pistols' is easily forgettable if you were to watch it "seriously". It's too much effort for a title you'll look at and go "What? Oh, yeah, that weird one with the animals or whatever". No more, no less. For a laugh, however, I think it might be a great experience with a lot of "What the heck?!"-moments. Don't do what I did. Watch this with a friend. Through a complicated mess, awaking from what he thought was a dream, he was faced with the reality of having slept with a male (despite his disgust for anything and anyone male).
