"Natural (ナチュラル)" by Yuka Kanno (菅野友香) Reviews Sep 19, 2024 A good portrayal of the struggles of a handicapped child, good portrayal of children as a whole. Well paced, well directed, most importantly: Well acted. The main heroine is basically a shonen protagonist in a little girls body, she's full of spirit and guts. So much fire in such a frail vessel. Like other movies with a disability theme there are characters that give the mc a hard time, but realistically come to terms in their own way with accepting or turning away from such differences. As far as anime movies go involving disability, this is one of the better films, it's not too lengthy, it's... not self-indulgent in it's material, it doesn't waste your time.Neat, bittersweet little movie. This is because I just can't help but to write one for this movie. I do not think that the art of this anime is very good, especially in comparison to other anime that came out during this time period. But I do believe it adds a kind of element to it, something that differentiates it from the rest. I know it is uncharacteristic to watch old anime that is no longer the latest, but it is good to go back and look at this art style every once in awhile. The story itself... is very realistic and wholesome, there were actually times that I had to take a break from the movie as I felt quite sad and didn't want to bawl my eyes out. The soundtrack is emotional, complementing the scene.Overall, I enjoyed it, and while it is not one of those timeless classics, I believe it still a movie to watch, and good in its own way. It's a movie that has lessons to teach and a story to tell, and it achieves this very well with what it has. A good watch for all ages, it may help change the way that we treat people who are different from us. While the art is mediocre, the characters and heart that this movie has will distract you from that soon. It really gives you insight into the difficulties the characters face surrounding Momoko's disability, including her parents, brother, classmates, and most importantly, Momoko herself. I enjoyed the focus on the disabled characters,... and I feel like this movie helped me understand them better. Some people have different needs than we do, and even though it may take a little adaptation, we shouldn't shy away from them! You can find a valuable friend in anyone. I think that's important for people of all ages to learn. And, be ready for a tearjerker. Since this movie deals with a lot of emotional themes, it's probable that by the end you'll at least have teared up. I actually had to grab a tissue and pause the movie to wipe my tears.Overall, an enjoyable experience! If you have an open mind and about 1 hr 20 min, you and/or your family can have a good time. Just keep the tissues nearby. Reviewer’s Rating: 7 What did you think of this review?
