More than 900 diagnostic pottery pieces have been found during the first season from all the trenches, all the pieces used for this study. Since the site has just one period of settlement and so the pottery data is important. The primary aim of this article is to introduce and classification of parthian pottery from Tepe Balan. Thus, pottery data have been typified according to technical features, decoration and form. In terms of methodology of the study, initially the diagnostic pottery of the first season of the excavation have been documented, then these data have been compared with other data from central and northwestern Zagros and Mesopotamia, and finally some similarities have been detected. The forms for a better understanding have been classified into logical group with considering factors like mouth width and height and form of rim. The Latin characters have been used to distinguish them. The study indicates that forms A and B outnumbered by more than 60%, Technical characteristics reveals that they had storage functions. The forms F and B are comparable to local forms, The forms A and E comparable with ware of the Centraonl Zagros region.

Therefore with the study of direct and indirect animal representation (animal bones and artifacts with the shape of animal) from ancient period of Gilan will be well known the beliefs, economy, livelihood that include nutrition, occupation, transportation and etc. The studies showed animal husbandry was as main occupation, but agriculture and hunting were less important in that time. Meat and fish were the kind of resident’s diet on the base of laboratory studies, and also transport and plowing with the animals such as horse, donkey and bull can be known with the study on some of artifacts, meanwhile some of these artifacts were as entertainment and toys. With the base of studies on the animal motifs is understandable that Iron Age inhabitants of Gilan believed animals, because of: totem, animal communication with the God, fear and animal strength.

of bones and teeth from horse and human bone samples to check the ratio of strontium and calcium and other
elements like zinc and copper. Interestingly the copper representation in humans is much higher compared to that
of Sr/Ca. This shows that their diet consisted mainly of animal meat and fish rather than other vegetarian foods.
However, the high representation of copper found in horse bone samples makes this scientific evidence an anomaly
and needs to be seen with caution and to be checked with a larger set of samples. likewise the zinc
Samples have a very weak representation. Of course the bones examined in this study came from museum repositories
and did not accompany the soil samples hence the values presented here represent only the bone chemistry
