Here's my take:The Confederate Flag is very racist to some, and not to others. So why create a big fuss, don't wear it, display it, or anything else. Keep it a personal thing. If we're aiming for PEACE, don't do anything to infringe on someone's culture. To some, the Confederate Flag is a big offense thanks...i really like that.i think that it does represent a big part of southern history (just as the swastica represents a big part of world history). however, history and heritage are too seperate concepts. they can be closely linked, but they're not synonimous. i think if someone wants a symbol to represent southern heritage, it should be a symbol that includes everyone from the south regardless of race, philosophy of life, gender, emotional orientation, etc. (not sure what that would be) i would have refused to. yeahhh thats what i was feeling, but i just thought...it was kind of interesting...because ive never heard point of view before...so thanks for replying!! well, my high school mascot is the rebel, so the confederate flag spends a lot of time in front of my face. I am white, but I am friends with most of the black students who attend my school and very close to some of them. The rebel flag does not offend me personally because I choose not to view it as a representation of slavery, but a representation of a former time. I do however understand why it offends some students at my school and it bothers me to have that happen. I see both sides of the argument, but when something is so inflammatory and causes such offense to some I think that it shouldn't be used casually. |
