Caring for cancer patients may create several negative emotions for their family members. Therefo... more Caring for cancer patients may create several negative emotions for their family members. Therefore, reducing or alleviating negative feelings are essential in improving mental and physical health of cancer patients' family members. This research aims to identify the priority levels of the strategies used by cancer patients' family members to cope with negative emotions, utilizing Analytic Hierarchy. Next, the proposed model is applied in the cases of Vietnamese cancer patients' family members. Four groups of coping strategies against negative emotions of cancer patients' family members are used in the model, including: (1) positive emotion-focused coping strategies; (2) negative emotion-focused coping strategies; (3) positive action-focused coping strategies; (4) negative action-focused coping strategies. .

On the basis of intensive and thorough studies of the current situation of foreign language profi... more On the basis of intensive and thorough studies of the current situation of foreign language proficiency and use, the authors propose key principles in designing models for enhancing the foreign language proficiency of officials and officers of the Customs, Foreign Relations, Tourism and Border Guards sectors in Vietnam’s northern border regions, and point out main orientations to be strictly followed in the process of model design. These are guiding principles that are decisive to the success of the models, so they must be appropriate to reality, and their correctness has to be proved through practice. This also demonstrates the dialectical relation between theory and practice.

The paper is aimed to compare evaluated scores between different groups of teachers on the Traini... more The paper is aimed to compare evaluated scores between different groups of teachers on the Training Program study used the social survey method with 3 questionnaires, which included close-ended 5 point Likert scale questions and open-ended questions were delivered to 3003 teachers of English (teacher trainees), 180 university teachers (teacher trainers), and 115 administrative officers of provincial departments of Education and Training in the country. The raw data collected were processed and coded in accordance with the research process in social scciencce. By using T-Test and ANOVA analyses to compare scores between groups of different teachers, researcher measured the evaluated scores between groups. They are not completely identical; a small number of participants still reveal their dissatisfaction with the Training Program, and some others want certain changes to the Training Program.

This article, as a part of a bigger research project on teachers' perceptions about the role of t... more This article, as a part of a bigger research project on teachers' perceptions about the role of the teacher in teaching English in Vietnam, is to contribute a voice in clarifying the competence of a language teacher (teaching language) in view of ELT methodologists in the world. First, the author presents different perspectives on the English teacher competence framework, then makes an analysis of the competence frameworks, and categorizes them into groups, so that readers easily find the strengths and weaknesses of the model. Then the article summarizes the results of a study on the perception of secondary school teachers in Hanoi about “a good English language teacher” and necessary competences of English language teachers. Theoretical framework for data analysis is based on Dudzik's Competency Framework for English Language Teachers (2008) and the Guidebook for use of Competency Framework for English Language Teachers from NFL2020 (2015). Research results will bring new information and necessary knowledge to help teachers and administrators (especially NFL2020) make appropriate adjustments to improve the quality of English language teaching in Vietnam.

This paper is a part of a bigger research project on secondary school teachers’ cognition of the ... more This paper is a part of a bigger research project on secondary school teachers’ cognition of the textbooks and the teaching methodology (Task-based Language Teaching). The purpose of this is to mention some theoretical issues in the research of teacher cognition and then to propose suggestions for the research project on secondary school teacher cognition. Firstly, the paper presents various concepts of teachers’ cognition. Secondly, this paper gives out educators’ viewpoints on the importance of teachers’ cognition of teaching methodology. Nextly, some research on teacher cognition of learning and teaching is discussed and reviewed. Lastly, the research on secondary school teacher cognition of textbooks and teaching methodology (TBLT) in Vietnam is suggested.

Researches of English language teaching (ELT) have focused on using mother tongue (L1) for years.... more Researches of English language teaching (ELT) have focused on using mother tongue (L1) for years. The proliferation of task-based language teaching (TBLT) has been also occurred. Considerable findings have been made in the existing literature of the two fields; however, no mentions have been made in the combination of these two ELT aspects, i.e., the use of L1 in English as a Second and Foreign Language (L2) classrooms in which TBLT is adopted. Hence, this paper is to make an argumentation in the appropriateness of this combination. Firstly, terminologies related to Tasks and TBLT framework are shortly revised. Secondly, the controversies with for and against views in monolingual approach in second and foreign language teaching (L2 teaching) is mentioned. Lastly, the paper makes an argumentation on why and how to use mother tongue in a modern teaching model as TBLT.

This paper is a part in a bigger research project related to ELT quality in secondary schools in ... more This paper is a part in a bigger research project related to ELT quality in secondary schools in Vietnam since the implementation of the new series of English textbooks was officially passed by in 2006, and the innovated direction was paid to task-based language teaching (TBLT). The purpose of this paper is to make argumentation on why, what and how to use mixed approaches method to investigate two subdomains of teacher cognitionteacher perception and teacher belief. Firstly, an introduction in the research project and research questions about secondary school teacher perception of TBLT and teacher belief of textbooks is shortly made. Secondly, the question what the mixed approaches method are like is dealt with. Next, the question why the mixed approaches method should be used in investigating teacher cognition in general and teacher perception as well as teacher belief in particular is answered and illustrated by writer's framework of research paradigm for the suitability and applicability. Lastly, the question how the mixed approaches method should be implemented to answer the research project questions is clarified and argued for its suitability.
