Methods: In acute toxicity study, mice were orally administered 2000 mg/kg body weight of extracts and synthetic compound. In subacute toxicity study, the animals were orally administered with the extracts and synthetic compound (2000 mg/kg body weight) daily for 28 days whereas, control group received normal saline. Results: There were no behavioral alterations or mortality recorded in the treated groups. The LD50 value was more than 2000 mg/kg body weight. Test groups did not record any significant alterations (p>0.05) in body weight gain, food and water intake. The hematological and biochemical parameters and organ weights did not record any significant alterations (p>0.05) in the treated groups when compared to con...

ROS are scavenged by radioprotectors before they can interact with biochemical molecules, thus reducing harmful effects of radiation. The objective of the present study was to investigate the protective efficacy of ethanolic extracts of pomegranate whole fruit (EPWF) and seeds (EPS) and Synthetic Ellagic acid (EA) against Electron beam radiation (EBR) induced biochemical alterations in Swiss Albino mice. The animals were exposed to sub-lethal dose (6Gy) of Electron Beam Radiation and then treated with100, 200 and 400mg/kg body wt. of pomegranate extracts and synthetic ellagic acid for 15 consecutive days. The biochemical estimations were carried out in the liver homogenate of the sacrificed animals. Test groups exhibited elevation in the levels of antiox...

In addition to its ancient historical uses, pomegranate is used in several systems of medicine for a variety of ailments. The objective of the present study was to investigate the presence of various phytochemicals from the ethanolic, aqueous and chloroform extracts of Punica granatum peel, whole fruit and seeds. The three different extracts from peel were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Flavonoids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C. The three different extracts from whole fruit were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Saponins, Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C. The three different extracts from seeds were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Saponins, Alkaloids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C.The generated data from the three different extracts of Punica granatum peel, whole fr...

In order to identify the most potent antioxidants, the antioxidant profiles of numerous compounds are frequently compared. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of various extracts of Punica granatum Linn. using invitro antioxidant assay systems. In vitro antioxidant properties of the extract were analyzed by DPPH, OH radical scavenging and reducing power assays. The various extracts tested, showed good radical scavenging and reducing property. The present study showed that among various extracts tested, the pomegranate peel ethanolic extract possess notable antioxidant property.
