_2:23 pm_[shalom_sum_sum] | WT Intensive German -- text book needed Hey, Does anyone here have (or know somebody who has) a copy of "Neue Horizonte," 6th edition, by Dollenmayer, which I could borrow for winter term (or buy from you at a low cost)? I'm taking WT intensive German, and really don't have the money right now to spend $150 on a book that I won't be using for more than a month and a half. I promise to take extremely good care of your book (I'd even give you a security deposit, if you like). Thanks! Johanna (Comment on this) |

_5:36 pm_[aslanscountry] | so I'm sure this has a really obvious answer but I'm having a pretty awful day (obviously) and I can't really concentrate on anything, so...I lost my key and my ID (they were attached to a keychain). Who am I supposed to contact about getting a temporary ID for the day? And how will I find out if someone finds my key and ID? (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_5:40 pm_[shalom_sum_sum] | Hi everyone. My name is Johanna, and I'll be attending Oberlin this fall as a third year transfer student. (Sorry, I know this group is for 2011-ers, but this post is relevant to you). I'm wondering whether you or anyone you know will be driving from near Newton, MA to Oberlin in time for the new student orientation (which begins August 28), and might have room the car for me (and my luggage--or just for me, I suppose, as my stuff can be shipped more cheaply than I can. :) ). Of course, if I join you, I'll help pay for gassoline and, if you want, be a great car dj. :o)Thanks for your generosity! I look forward to meeting you. -Johanna (Comment on this) |

_2:29 pm_[humusalia] | SORRY TO INTRUDE Hi. Unfortunately I am not able to say that I am going to Oberlin in the class of 2011. Not because I didn't get accepted, but because I haven't applied yet! I am a senior in high school still. I will be applying in November, as Early Decision. I'm so exited that I can't help but feel a little worried as to whether I am good or not. SO I decided to ask some of you lucky chaps/new Obies if you wouldn't mind quelling my anxiety about applying successfully (seeing as that is what all of you did!)? I am currently worried about whether or not my SAT scores are high enough to get accepted. I know it's not only about the scores, but still... I have one chance left to take them if I want, so I am trying to find out if it's worth stressing over or not. A lot of the older Obies can't help me because the test has changed since they were accepted, and supposedly the competition for getting accepted into Oberlin (and college in general) keeps getting tougher and tougher--including SAT scores. Since you guys took the new SAT, may I ask what your scores were, and whether or not you took subject tests? My scores are: Math:660 Reading:700 Writing:700 Essay:9What about you? I'd like to see how it compares, or whether I should take the test again. Congrats again, I'm happy for all of you. School's almost here!!! Current Mood: hungry (13 Comments |Comment on this) |

_1:55 am_[d3monicferret] | Introduce yourself:Name: AnnaPre-Oberlin Location: Cheshire, CTSome interesting details about the town/city in which you live: We're the bedding plant capital of Connecticut. How exciting. More exciting to me: The Cheshire High School Marching Ram Band is the USSBA Group 5 champions. And I was the drum major. Win.Music: Mostly jazz, classical, and rock; but I can potentially be interested in any genre. If I like it, I like it.Books: The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy books are my most favorite ever. Random stuff I like (not complete at all): The Princess Bride, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat, The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, and the authors Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card, J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, and Arthur C. Clarke. What book(s) are you reading right now? Good, bad, boring? The Lucifer Effect, which is by Philip Zimbardo, the guy that did the Stanford Prison Experiments. It's about why and how good people go bad. Veeery interesting.Movies: Again, not complete: The Princess Bride, Star Wars, The Breakfast Club, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Borat, Ghost World, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spirited Away, Grease, Aladdin, Knocked Up, Spiderman 3 (only for the pie scene, if you know what I mean)So what the hell do you do with all that "spare time"?: HAHAHAHAHA. Well, this is a good time to mention I'm a classical saxophone major in the Con. Besides music-ing myself, I enjoy DCI, crafts, writing, doodling, being a Grey's Anatomy fangirl, playing Wii, being random, dancing wildly around my house, etc.Where is the most exciting place you've traveled? AustraliaFill in the blank: "Ohmygoodness, I'm so afraid that my college roomate will _be a total drug addict, sexile me every other night, and be a noisy, nosy kleptomaniac_!"Anything else you'd like to add: Say hi, either here or on Facebook. I'd love to have a few safety friends before I get to Oberlin.Feel free to throw in a picture at the end:Sorry. I just went to a Drum Corp International show. It's on the mind. _7:30 pm_[aslanscountry] | Introduce yourself: grr argh?Name: Amanda VivianPre-Oberlin Location: Stamford, CTSome interesting details about the town/city in which you live. I don't really know anything about my town because I went to private school from grades K-3 and 9-12, which means that I never spend a lot of time in my town or with people from my town. I know I really like the downtown library and the Stamford Museum and Nature Center but otherwise I have no idea what Stamford is all about. Except that Turn of River Middle School broke my heart.Music: Rilo Kiley, Sleater-Kinney, Eisley, the Dresden Dolls, Neutral Milk Hotel, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's, Giant Drag, the Vibration. And some stuff I listen to with my dad.Books: I'm not good at listing my favorite books, but here are the books I've intensely loved since November 2005: Some of the Parts by T Cooper, White Apples by Jonathan Carroll, Sexy by Joyce Carol Oates, Rose of No Man's Land by Michelle Tea, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson, Send in the Idiots by Kamran Nazeer, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler, and The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. What book(s) are you reading right now? Good, bad, boring? I'm reading On Writing by Stephen King and it's really good (and helpful). I'm also trying to read Lipshitz Six by T Cooper because I liked Some of the Parts so much but I'm having trouble getting into it.Movies: The Princess Bride, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Pirates of the Carribean, Waitress, Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi, probably some other stuff but in general I don't like movies. So what the hell do you do with all that "spare time"?: I waste a lot of time but I'm trying not to. When I'm not wasting time I write books, stories, and songs, record the songs, go on walks, read, write letters, and talk to people I like.Where is the most exciting place you've traveled? ENGLAND. I mean I guess it's not super exciting but when I was there I loved it so much it didn't seem real. I was enchanted by the money and the buildings and the cold. It felt like a fairy tale. I can't explain why.Fill in the blank: "Ohmygoodness, I'm so afraid that my college roomate will _____!" Oh damn, I don't know. I'd like to be friends with my roommate. It would be depressing if we didn't like each other and barely spoke to each other. It makes me happy if the person who wrote this survey actually says "oh my goodness" because I do too. Feel free to throw in a picture at the end This is what I look like when I'm not making a facial expressionbut I usually am. (10 Comments |Comment on this) |
