November 21st (23rd for Americans) of 2008 is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's 10th Anniversary.
10 years ago, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time broke records, topped sales charts, wowed critics, and of course--amazed the fans, and fans-to-be. While some of us had played the Zelda games since long before then, for many Zelda fans, this was the first game they played, and for many others, this still stands as their favorite Zelda game--if not their favorite video game.
So, in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this phenomenal game's release, oot_anni was born. Growing to a mass of 50 participants within the first two weeks, the original goal was simply an art marathon. A sketch-a-day sort of practice, focusing on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
However, while it has not wandered far from that original goal, the medias in which one can participate have. It is no longer simply an illustrative practice, though it is strongly recommended that one do something visual. Participants can submit work in whichever form of art they wish to express them in, their medium is only limited by their imagination.
However, while the medias have become open, there are still rules.
First, the guidelines for participants:
- Every participant is encouraged to upload a single fan art--be it something as simple as a quick sketch or completed piece--every day in November leading up to the 23rd, as this was the original goal of this group.
- If you cannot participate every day in November but still want to participate, feel free to, as long as you can upload something on either November 21st or November 23rd (the Japanese and US release dates).
- This tribute is not character specific. Any character can be drawn, etc., as long as the character is present in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
- Original characters and crossovers are allowed, as long as it does not deviate too far from the goal of doing a Zelda tribute (this includes original interpretations of the existing characters).
- Anyone can participate. It doesn't matter your skill level, or how long you've liked the game, or even if, 10 years later, you still haven't beaten the game (some people, believe it or not, haven't). The point is: you're a fan, and that's what matters.
Second, the rules for submissions:
- While it is encouraged that the participant express how they feel about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, please keep it PG-13.
- All participants are asked to conduct themselves in a respectful manner and keep their personal issues out of this group. It is understandable that not everyone likes everyone else, but we're not here to talk about that or express that.
- Icons are allowed, as long as the art used is either official, published art for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, published doujinshis (mangas included), or fan art used with permission (you must be able to prove this permission). It is also strongly recommended that you list your specific resources for Also, those choosing to do icons must upload 5-10 per submission.
- You cannot submit old works. If it has already been uploaded and spread around before November 1st, it will not count. This does not bar participants from working on their pieces before November, but if it is uploaded before November 1st, it will not be added. No exceptions!
- Please keep your submissions to one a day, unless you are doing icons. It's great if you can do more than one a day, but only one will be picked if more than one is submitted.
- When uploading, make sure to use the label "OOT ANNI" in the title. This does not have to be permanent, simply so it is clear that it is your submission for that day.
Now, how this is going to work:
- We will be recruiting all the way until October 31st. Anyone can participate as long as they can adhere to the submission rules and guidelines, and of course, are an Ocarina of Time fan.
- Starting November 1st, participants will begin to upload their works, and submissions will cease on November 23rd.
- Participants, if they have a LiveJournal, are encouraged to join the LiveJournal community. This is where most of the communication will take place.
- All submissions will be mirrored on both the LiveJournal community and DeviantART. LiveJournal's mirrors will be via embedding, and the DeviantART mirrors will be 300x300 thumbnails with a link to the original image unless the participants will it otherwise.
That is it for now. We still have months to go, and months to grow. It is encouraged that ALL participants tell every Zelda fan they know about this, as it'd be wonderful to get even as many as 100 participants.
