Welcome to our community, where all discussion on peak oil is on-topic. We encourage you to join and to participate.

Simply put, peak oil is the point at which world oil output reaches its maximum and then declines. On the "downside" as oil supply is declining, it is believed that the remaining oil will become (at the present state of technology) more expensive to retrieve...as the easier-to-obtain oil will have already been pumped.

The implications of peak oil are very far-reaching, as world demand for oil is continuing to increase rather than adjusting itself to the decline in new oil discoveries. Many who see oil as primarily the source of gasoline for cars are surprised to learn that, for example, the present means of providing food for our currently large world population is dependent on cheap oil.

This community is for people who are approaching the subject of peak oil from all perspectives...those who seek support, those who feel the best course is to be resigned to what the future holds, those who are interested in mitigating disaster, those who are interested in exploring solutions--all are welcome.

Note: many believe that we will not end up being able to use even the oil we have left because to do so would catastrophically intensify the climate crisis.
