Jack Antonoff's Band Bleachers Announce Self-Titled Album and Unveil New Song 'Alma Mater' with Lana Del Rey (original) (raw)

A new era of Bleachers is officially here.

On Wednesday, Jack Antonoff's alternative band announced its fourth studio album Bleachers and released a nostalgic new single called "Alma Mater," which features guest vocals from the frontman's friend and collaborator Lana Del Rey.

The self-titled album is set for a March 8 release via the record label Dirty Hit, and Bleachers also announced a four-date U.K. tour in promotion of the record for spring 2024.

Appearing on the record as its fifth track, "Alma Mater" finds Antonoff, 39, musing on time spent with a romantic partner and comparing the memories to attending a familiar school.

"She's my alma mater / Chasin' lines all night / Smokin' me outta sight / Well, summer's gettin' hotter / Threw her T-shirt down the pike," sings Antonoff, before referencing his native New Jersey's popular Wawa convenience store chain as well as Tom Waits' 1980 Heartattack and Vine album. "Screamin', 'F--- Balenciaga' / Right past the Wawa / Threw on Heartattack and Vine / As she alligator cries / I'll make it darker."

Del Rey, 38, opens the song with a spoken intro before providing prominent background vocals and harmonizing with Antonoff on its chorus. Bartees Strange and Clairo also sing backup on the track.

"Alma Mater" marks Bleachers' latest release following the upcoming album's lead single "Modern Girl," an infectious pop-rock song reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen that features saxophones and a catchy chorus.

“All the modern girls / Shakin' their ass tonight / Love on a wire / Who’s looking for a fight / All the modern boys / Are going out tonight / Change my meds, change the flight,” Antonoff sings on the ‘80s-inspired song.

Bleachers also revealed the complete tracklist for its self-titled album on Wednesday, and the project will feature the additional songs "I Am Right on Time," "Jesus Is Dead," "Me Before You," "Tiny Moves," "Isimo," "Woke Up Today," "Self Respect," "Hey Joe," "Call Me After Midnight," "We're Gonna Know Each Other Forever," "Ordinary Heaven" and "The Waiter."

In August, the musician tied the knot with actress Margaret Qualley. It was a star-studded affair in New Jersey, attended by famous friends including Del Rey, Swift, Channing Tatum, Zoë Kravitz and Cara Delevingne.
