I suppose the invisible dog probably makes a lot more sense if you can understand the dialogue, as I imagine it's staged by talking about what the animal is supposedly doing...
Making sure the audience never actually sees Erik's face is definitely a good idea.
I've seen Shakespeare done with an all-male cast (which was of course how it was originally written) at the Globe, and it really isn't an issue after the first few minutes if the actors are any good: the stage is an artificial environment anyway, and it's just another convention.

That looks really cool! I'd really like to see the whole thing myself (although for $200 Canadian plus shipping, I probably won't--yikes!). It certainly looks very well--and very imaginatively--done. I must say, I have wondered why ALW didn't do an adaption of Susan Kay's highly successful novel (I am lucky enough to own a first printing hardcover myself, being an avid Phantom fan at the time and snapping up everything I saw--I even have a paperback of PoM somewhere about); I guess he figured people would want a sequel more than a prequel, especially considering what George Lucas did to the word, lol, and maybe he couldn't get the rights. Still, I think a prequel to the stage version, ending with him coming to the opera house, making a home, and then hearing Christine for the first time, aaaand curtain, would have been a much, much better match to the stage show.
Mind you, if this version used "Pie Jesu" (which looks hilarious without the accents, lol), then it's probably pretty likely that they didn't get the rights to it or the novel (which may be why it's so hard to get out of Japan). Still, they did credit the author, so maybe they did; I cerainly hope so.
--Hey, if they're going to do an all-female version of "Phantom" then an all-male version is only fair, ha ha.
Looking forward to Part 2! And also possibly a quick review of "Un Monstre a Paris" although I do know it's a lot less Phantomy than it looks, ha ha. Still, it was very cool indeed to see it in the title sequence. What are the other films in there? I recognized a few but not most of them by far; it's cool to know there's so many other Phantomy films out there I haven't seen yet!

The other films in there were actually from TV - 1 from Knight Rider (which coincidentally, has Robert Englund as the Phantom character!) and another from Baywatch, plus an anime Phantom story that I came across recently. Hopefully I will get round to checking out all of these soon!
