_2:05 pm_[ladymacbeth6] PAWS IS OVERLOADED WITH ANIMALS! HELP! PAWS takes in over 30,000 animals a year. Yesterday alone we received 54 cats - and only had about 12 adoptions. We need to amp up our adoption rates, now! Spread the word! There are hundreds of beautiful, adoptable cats and dogs at PAWS! Here's just a sample of some of the beautiful animals who need homes. Please, cross-post this and spread the word. The animals need you!**( Pictures and Descriptions of Animals HereCollapse )**SEE MANY MORE OF OUR ADOPTABLE ANIMALS HERE:http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA235.htmlIF YOU CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT AN ANIMAL: Come to the shelter (111 W. Hunting Park Avenue) immediately. A staff person or foster care volunteer will be thrilled to help you find the right animal(s) for you to take into safety. Foster care and adoption hours are 11 am to 6 pm every day of the week. Directions to the shelter are available here: http://phillypaws.org/Directions/default.aspPAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, is a donor-funded division of the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association (PACCA) dedicated to saving the lives of Philadelphia's homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals. Taking in nearly 30,000 animals each year, PAWS is dedicated to making Philadelphia a city in which all healthy and treatable animals are guaranteed a home. Supporting PAWS helps fund lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay and neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other community-based programming, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. _11:29 pm_[ladymacbeth6] Animal Control in Philadelphia RIght now, there is a lot going on with Animal Control in Philadelphia. PACCA is in danger of losing their contract with the city, as the health dept has put out an RFP on a contract to start Jan 1 2009, even though PACCA's contract is through June 30, 2009. Philly PAWS and PACCA have gone leaps and bounds beyond what animal control in philly was doing 5 years ago, and that can't stop. Philly must be No-Kill. There is no lifesaving language in the current RFP, it only calls for "disposal of animals."Read more here - http://phillypaws.org/savelivesnow/Join the cause here - http://phillynokill.com/NoKill/Welcome.htmlAnd contact these people, too! http://www.phila.gov/health/Commissioner/CommissionersOffice.htmlPlease, the only thing that will save the 30,000+ animals that come through animal control each year are concerned citizens.

_9:00 am_[ladymacbeth6] Many Mom Cats and Babies at PAWS need Your Help! I'm a volunteer at PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, and I've been looking for more places to get the word out about fostering kittens. PAWS/PACCA gets over 30,000 animals a year and right now we are still battling kitten season and usually have between 25 and 40 litters who need to be fostered or they'll be euthanized due to space. I thought there might be people in this community who'd be interested in fostering - please let me know if you are and i can help you out. This is a post I make a couple times a week with pictures i've taken of every litter of kittens in the building, and i post it on craiglist, myspace, facebook, blogs, and anywhere I can find - please let me know if you know of any other good places i might find philly-area foster parents! Thanks!

_3:06 pm_[madrigalblue] Need (suburban) space for charity work Hi friends, I'm doing a 3day, 60 mile walk to fight breast cancer in October. It will take place in Philly. Needless to say, there is some MAJOR fundraising that needs to happen because I have committed to raise $2200. I would like to host some small events such as a scrapbooking crop and an Avon party. However, I do not have any space in which to do these events and I do not attend a church so I don't think I could get a donated space. Could someone suggest a place?I am looking for potential places in suburban Philly, either in PA or NJ.I've tried Craigslist and such, but no luck so far. Thanks!Tara(So you know I'm legit, here's my site: http://08.the3day.org/goto/tara )

_3:00 pm_[deepdarksea] thrift stores? Hi, I have a question about thrift stores, or stores in Philadelphia that allow you to sell used clothes, in good condition, to them. I have some clothes that are in good condition and always give it away to good will.. well now, i would love a little extra cash and i read in a magazine that it is possible to sell back some stuff for a few bucks. I wanted to know which stores in Philadelphia do that? I live in NE, but I'm all over the city so i'd be willing to go pretty much anywhere. Thank you!

_9:18 pm_[dhpdesign] How serious are you about Internet radio? _I know this is not Philly-specific, but I'm involved in Philly radio and I hope fellow citizens and listeners have a little activism in 'em because this affects American music lovers from all walks. x-posted like whoa._Imagine opening up iTunes on your computer and seeing the Radio section... empty. No great themed stations from radioio, AccuRadio, or SomaFM. No niche outlets featuring big-band jazz, or industrial, or '80s music, or classical.Imagine great American audio streams simply drying up. No exclusives from KCRW. No mixes from Indie 103.1. No archives from WXPN. No **FolkAlley.**Imagine untouchable tech companies deeming their music offerings business losses. Goodbye AOL Radio. Goodbye **Yahoo! LAUNCHCast.**Imagine the music experiences you define online... taken offline. No Rhapsody. No Pandora. No Live365.On Friday March 2nd, the U.S. government (specifically, the Copyright Royalty Board, or "CRB") announced its determination of the royalty rates Internet radio webcasters must pay the owners of sound recording copyrights to license the music they play for the years 2006-2010. The owners of these sound recording copyrights are, in the vast majority of cases, recording companies ("labels").While successful webcasters which have built loyal audiences can usually cover most of their costs from their revenue (and sometimes even make a little profit), these new rates will almost certainly destroy the Internet radio industry, as they amount to well over 100% of even the most-successful webcasters' online radio revenues. In other words, these fees are grotesquely disproportionate to any other expense a webcaster would normally face, and certain to bankrupt him or her. There's absolutely nothing wrong with artists getting their fair share of royalties due them from song performances. However, the structure put in place by the CRB may ultimately be unfair to artists as well as webcasters as it threatens to kill, or put a financial chilling effect on, many online venues where musicians' work might be heard.Click the graphic above to find out more, to petition Congress against this move, and to help spread the word.

_3:26 pm_[tactical_music] Live film soundtrack this Sunday (for fans of film, experimental music, classical, rock) Hey everyoneThis Sunday afternoon on the UPenn campus, there will be a really neat screening of a silent film with a live improvised soundtrack performed by Relache. I've taken the liberty of copy/pasting the info on it below, as I think some of you might be interested in coming out to see it.___Sun. 1/28/07 3:00PM @ International House3701 Chestnut St., Philadelphia......Buster Keaton's THE GENERAL: a new live score by Relache......Randall Woolf's "Bring Your Own Dancer"Considered by critics as one of the greatest comedies of all time, The General (1927) is Buster Keaton's fast-paced tour de force. Pitted between the love for his locomotive and his sweetheart, Johnnie embarks on the craziest train ride in film.Philadelphia's contemporary music gurus, Relache, will test their mettle as they perform a self-composed score full of the daring improvisation that put them on the map. Paired with Randall Woolf's kinetic "Bring Your Own Dancer," this multisensory extravaganza is sure to be a highlight of the 06/07 season. Special student rates available.
