PLASTIC VINYL

The Community

+ "To me, making a tape is like writing a letter. There's a lot of erasing and rethinking and starting again. A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do. You've got to kick off with a corker, to hold the attention (I started with "Got to Get You Off My Mind," but then realized that she might not get any further than track one, side one if I delivered what she wanted straightaway, so I buried it in the middle of side two), and then you've got to up it a notch, or cool it a notch, and you can't have white music and black music together, unless the white music sounds like black music, and you can't have two tracks by the same artist side by side, unless you've done the whole thing in pairs and... oh, there are loads of rules."
Nick Hornby, High Fidelity.

+ Basically we like mixtapes. We like mixcds. We like the internet. We like making said tapes and cds, finding people on the internet and exchanging them. Thus the love has been shared.

+ The Idea is, theres a new exchange every month. We give you a theme- which is always optional- and you say if you want in on the challenge this month. Then we match you up with another livejournal user, give you their details, and away you go. You have a month to make and send them a mixtape or cd. It's simple, and yay fun because everyone likes nice shiny post.

+ Your mods are chasingwords, fatherbananas & suthnoli. Though it's essentially just suthnoli right now. We're not scary, anyway, and you can contact us here.

The Rules

+ This is a moderated membership community. I know that's a pain in the ass, and it seems like we're being elitist, but nay, we just don't want people joining and getting mixes and not participating themselves and basically being arses. Tisn't fair, so yep, moderated. Anyway, there are ten golden rules;

  1. Join the community
  2. email me with your lj name, a couple of bands/genres you're into and your home address (wherever you want your mixes to be sent, basically) and wether you'd prefer cds, tapes or either.
  3. I will approve your membership and, if you sign up to that month's challenge, email you the address of who you'll be sending your mix to.
  4. There will be a new exchange every month. Just because you're in the community DOES NOT mean you have to participate every month, because then you'd probably go through a lot of cds. I'll make a post announcing the new theme which you MAY OR MAY NOT use to make your mix, and you can comment on the entry and let me know if you're in or not each month.
  5. All posts must be friends only.
  6. Once accepted you can post quite liberally. Post about cds you got in the exchange, post pictures and scans of the album art, post reviews of new bands etc. Just talk! Hopefully the community will be active.
  7. Promotion is allowed but again all posts must be friends only, so only by members. Try to keep them related to music etc.
  8. Affiliates are welcome, just post a comment on the FO entry
  9. Have fun and spread the word :D
  10. Be nice to each other. Life is way too short for us to put up with bitches. We're all misanthropes, but we get over it.
