Overview

Dr. Mike Kai Wick Cheng is an internal medicine generalist who provides primary care. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine within the Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM). He additionally is the Fellowship Director of the DGIM Clinician Educator Fellowship and the Physician Lead for Quality Improvement Education within DGIM, engaging residents, NPs, and faculty in quality improvement within the Division. Dr. Cheng's areas of interest include medical education, quality improvement, and interprofessionalism.

Through teaching, mentorship, and scholarly work, he aims to equip residents to meaningfully engage in improvement of patient care, to guide fellows in pursuit their passion within academic general internal medicine, and to implement and evaluate the impact of initiatives related to quality improvement, QI education, and interprofessionalism. As a clinician, Dr. Cheng pursues high-value care and values quality communication with patients, with an emphasis on preventative health.

He completed his bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley and completed a minor in English. He then earned his medical degree at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine internship/residency at the University of Chicago. He completed the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine Clinician Educator Fellowship and earned his MA in Education at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Cheng is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine.
