Both principles and methods for carrying out simulation investigations of CADC functioning, as well as their application areas, are considered. Some examples of simulation researches performed using developed CADC models and corresponding software, including comparison of proposed sub-optimal adaptive CADCs with existing patterns of conventional cyclic ADCs and comparison of CADC testing methods, are presented. The efficiency of simulation as a reliable, convenient and low-cost tool significantly simplifying and accelerating analysis and design of CADCs is also shown.

The paper compares and discusses differences in the performance criterions and approaches to opti... more The paper compares and discusses differences in the performance criterions and approaches to optimization and design of analog feedback communication systems (AFCS) and digital communication systems (DCS) utilizing the code transmission. The main attention is paid to differences in approaches to the improvement of AFCS and DCS performance, which permit to consider AFCS design as the second but currently not used branch of information theory. Unlike the DCS, AFCS permit to determine dependencies of their limit characteristics (capacity and energy-spectral efficiency) and the characteristics of their transmitters, receivers and channels. The latter one enables complex optimization and design of AFCS, whose performance attains the Shannon's limits, and their simple and low cost transmitters utilize their energy and spectral resources most efficiently. This makes AFCS more preferable, than DCS, communication channels of wireless networks. The paper develops previous author’s research, as well as the researches carried out in the 1950-1960. The presented results open a wide field for the further investigations.

The core idea of the approach is direct measurement of ENOB using, as a numerical measure, the number of true bits before the first erroneous bit (FEB) position. The position of FEB is determined as the first non-zero bit in the binary presentations of conversion errors. The definition of ENOB based on FEB is introduced and discussed. The particularities of the proposed method are analysed in simulation experiments. There are presented typical evolutions of FEB distributions in sequential cycles of conversion. Values of ENOB obtained using FEB-based method are compared with results obtained using the conventional approach to ENOB assessment. The comparison is performed on example of analysis of influence of DNL and INL errors of internal A/D converter on ENOB of CADC. The proposed method of the ENOB measur...

A particular feature of AFCS is they transmit the signals from digital or analog sensors to the base stations (BS) using pulse-amplitude (PAM) modulators adaptively adjusted by the controls formed in BS, no coding. Absence of coders permits to derive optimal transmission-reception algorithms determining the way of optimal AFCS design. Adaptive properties of the systems permit to transmit data to BS perfectly, i.e. with energy and spectral efficiencies attaining Shannon's limits. The not used before adequate measures of AFCS performance are discussed and used for investigation of designed prototype of optimal AFCS functioning. Optimal AFCS may become a perspective class of high efficient narrowband low energy communication channels for the wireless sensor networks.

The goal of the paper is a discussion of benefits and fields of application of the optimal analog... more The goal of the paper is a discussion of benefits and fields of application of the optimal analog feedback communication systems (AFCS) and comparison of the approaches to their and digital communication systems (DCS) optimization. There is shown a deep difference between the mathematical tools used for the analysis and optimization of AFCS and DCS which permits to consider the approaches to their optimization as independent directions of research in information theory. The main reason of differences is qualitative difference of the sources of signals transmitted by the systems. Both analog and digital systems solve similar task but in completely different way. The results of analysis show that digital CS are irreplaceable for digital signals transmission. However, in all cases, where optimal AFCS can be applied, they transmit analog signals with the greater power-bandwidth efficiency than DCS designed for the same applications. The paper is based on previous author’s research and researches in AFCS theory carried out in the 1950-1960s.

of the sensor node - base station (SNBS) links of physical
layer of wireless sensor networks performance. The key idea is the
consideration of SNBS as the remote measurement and estimation
systems and application of the corresponding analytical tools. It is shown that the main difficulty in the improvement of digital SNBS performance is impossibility to formulate and solve the optimization task using well developed methods of the optimal estimation theory. In turn, the SNBS transmitting the signals formed by the sensors using analog PAM transmitter adjusted over the feedback channel permit the formulation of analytical form of the mean square error (MSE) and solution of
optimization task. The obtained optimal transmission–reception
algorithm enables designing of a low energy-size-cost analog
SNBS, which transmit the signals with minimal MSE and a bit
rate equal to the capacity of the link. Moreover, the MSE of
transmission determines the information characteristics of the
links, as well as enables a development of the unified methods of
the SNBS real performance evaluation and measurement.
