In this paper, a network has been trained to learn the set of end effecter positions X, Y and Z from a given set of joint angle positions for a 6 DOF industrial robot. Training data sets were uniformly distributed over a particular region of the robot's working area so that the network can make good generalisation for the ...

The experimental techniques employed for determining the behaviour of composite materials at high strain rate in tensile, compressive and shear loading are presented and discussed. The discussion includes their fundamental advantages and limitations. Directions for future research are also indicated.

The FES has been developed using object oriented programming, dynamic link library (DLL) and Axtive-X Control. It can be easily incorporated into internet and intranet environments and can be accessed virtually from any place. A simplified fuzzy set-handling object has been developed in order to save resources. A weighted-centroid rather than a union centroid has been used in output defuzzification. Comparison between these two methods is also made and discussed.

Thus, the motion simulation of multibodies connected with revolute-joints is of common interest. A simple revolute-joint can be easily represented in a numerical way, whereby the bending moment at the particular joint equals zero. Formulation becomes complicated when involving bending limits, the resistive moment and the damping effect. Furthermore, several bodies connected with revolute-joints form a complex system. This has been particularly useful for simulating a multibody system. A novel revolute-joint model is proposed in this paper. Several possible methods are suggested to handle bending limits. The incor-poration of the resistive moment and damping effects are also presented. The numerical stability of the revolute element is discussed, and a stability criterion suggested. The revolute-joint element is incorporated into an explicit finite difference code developed by the authors. Numerical examples are shown for different methods and conditions.

It plays an important role in efficient utilization of machine tools and significantly influences the overall manufacturing cost. This paper is devoted to studying the feasibility of using neural network in representing machinability data. The feed-forward neural network is used to predict optimum machining parameters under different machining conditions. The back propagation (BP) method is used to optimize the network component representation. An object-oriented neural network-handling library is developed and implemented in the turning process. The authors introduce a new type of artificial neuron in the design of neural network for turning process, namely the Product neuron, which has multiplication instead of summation. The characteristics and applications of the new neuron are explained in this paper. The proposed network unveils the possibility of developing an expert system for machinability data selection based on neural networks. Comparisons with fuzzy logic representation in the literatures are made.
