As a teacher of a Humanistische Gymnasium for Latin and Greek I am always interested in new developments in Classics and the conveying of the classical languages, literature and cultural ideas. My school is the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in the beautiful and "Roman" (it was founded as castra for two legions, later HQ of the legio XXII) city of Mainz in Germany. I studied in Mainz (1991-1994, 2005-2006), Ireland (Trinity College Dublin, 1995-1996), Cyprus (1997-2000). My main area of study and research has always been Hellenistic literature, especially epigrams. But I am also interested in Early Greek Poetry, Plato, Thucydides, Euripides and in the Roman sphere: Cicero, Catullus, Martial but also Roman grammarians and Ambrosius. In my pastime I enjoy - among many things - a brisk or lingering walk through the Botanical Garden of Mainz - or any Botanical Garden for that matter.

Yeats as a pastoral. The rural setting, the frugal life described in it, the escapist mood that abounds, the melancholy displayed, the apparent stark contrast of town and countryside at least invite to take such a look at the three stanzas. Additionally I would like to suggest, that the island is a retreat and refuge especially or even specifically for the poet.

It is revision of my - unpublished - MLitt thesis on Posidippus' "old" epigrams, which had been accepted at Trinity College Dublin. It takes into account various new scholarly perspectives that had been offered since the publication of the Posidippus Milan Papyrus and discusses several epigramms in detail.
