It was a cross-sectional study. Edmonton Frail Scale was used to determine the level of frailty and, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio were used to determine inflammation. Of 332 people included in the study, 54.82% were females and 45.18% were males. Participants' ages were between 65 and 106. When we examined the frailty of the participants according to the Edmonton Frail Scale, the mean score was 9.403 ± 2.032. The mean neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio of the participants were 4,397±5,038 and 169,363±101,461 respectively. Accordingly, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was high in men, frail elderly, 75-84 age range, hypertension patients, malnutrition patients; and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was low in diabetes mellitus, dementia, cerebrovascular accident and hemiplegia. Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, another inflammatory marker, was high in men, non-frail elderly, 75-84 age range, hypertension patients and cerebrovascular accident patients; it was low in hemiplegia, malnutrition, dementia, diabetes mellitus. In the study, no statistically significant difference was found between Edmonton Frail Scale and inflammatory markers. More studies are needed on this subject. In addition, we think that examining NLR and PLR values will be useful for monitoring inflammation in frail elderly.

Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional study included 438 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 as confirmed by PCR tests in Antalya between March 16 th and June 15 th , 2020. The study continued with 311 patients after exclusion of patients under the age of 18 as well as those with incomplete data and those receiving health care at private hospitals. The patients were divided into groups according to being under 65 years of age, with or without underlying comorbidities, with or without intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and were compared in terms of demographic characteristics, clinical course, treatment, and outcomes. Results: The study included 311 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 as confirmed by SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR tests. The mean age was 47.48 ± 18.08 (min: 18, max: 94) years and 252 patients (81%) were under 65, while 52 patients (19%) were 65 and over years of age. Forty-five percent of the patients were women and 55% were men. Comorbidity, namely, hypertension (p<0.001), diabetes mellitus (p=0.010), chronic pulmonary diseases (p=0.001), and cardiovascular diseases (p<0.001) were significantly more common in geriatric patients compared to non-geriatric patients. Patients aged 65 and over, and patients with underlying comorbidities had significantly increased dyspnea, positive chest CT findings, ICU admission, mortality rates and hospitalization time compared to patients under 65 years of age and without comorbidities, respectively. Oseltamivir, favipiravir and levofloxacin were used significantly more in the treatment of geriatric patients and patients with underlying comorbidities. Being 65 and older was determined as a risk factor in univariate and multivariate models for both ICU admission and mortality. Conclusion: As a result, the need for intensive care and mortality rates have increased in COVID-19 patients who are older and/or have underlying comorbidities, indicating the necessity to take measures for preventing the spread of SARS-CoV-2, especially to patients who are older and/or have underlying comorbidities.

Methods: The data collection forms prepared for this cross-sectional study were converted into an online questionnaire form and sent to the physicians working as family physicians in different provinces of Turkey between December 2020-January 2021 via emails (GoogleGroups) and communication groups (Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.). The responses of 494 family physicians in Turkey, who were accessible through this method and volunteered to participate in the study, were recorded to be analysed. Results: Of the 494 family physicians in our study, 6.3% (n=31) appeared to have no intention of getting vaccinated against the COVID-19, whereas 13.2% (n=65) were undecided. The opinion towards which the participants in our study had the highest positive attitude was related to the necessity to provide everyone with the COVID-19 vaccine', while the most obvious negative attitude was related to the view that the efficacy of the vaccine has not yet been tested sufficiently. Conclusions: Although a significant majority of family physicians have a positive attitude towards the need for administering the COVID-19 vaccine, more than half have expressed a negative or indecisive attitude towards relying on the statements made about the vaccine and its efficacy, which is said to have been adequately tested. For the desired levels can be reached in terms of vaccination rates, it is necessary to inform family physicians about the efficacy and benefits of the vaccine and to convey this information to individuals through family physicians.

The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship between ultrasonography (NT, CRL) and biochemical markers (PAPP-A, β-hCG) with the levels of paraoxonase (PON1), a multifunctional enzyme associated with High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Arylesterase (ARE)-level PON1 phenotypic distribution which are the parameters used in the first trimester screening program. Materials and Methods: Included in the study were pregnant women (n=114) in weeks 11-13 of pregnancy who had undergone first trimester screening tests. Risks were determined through the use of Benetech PRA software, Serum PON1, ARE and stPON1 values were analysed, and PON1 phenotypic distribution was determined through the double substrate method. Results: No significant correlation was found between the results of the PON1 and ARE activi...

To explore how satisfied family medicine residents are with their training in teaching hospitals and current postgraduate training program. Methods. We surveyed 135 family medicine residents in 5 teaching hospitals in Ankara region. The residents were asked to fill out the questionnaire at their work place. The questionnaire consisted of 23 open-and closed-ended questions about general demographic data, training conditions, appropriateness of training, and quality of training delivered by clinical teachers in family medicine. The response rate was 75%. Results. Seventy percent of respondents found the order of rotation important. Most residents were satisfied with the duration of rotation. Eighty two percent of residents found basic skills taught during the course of the training to be insufficient. Fifty five percent of the participants felt that training in teaching hospitals was not sufficient, and majority desired training in family practice settings. Ninety-nine respondents suggested establishing a coordinating center for family medicine training and training of clinical teachers in topics relevant to family practice. Conclusion. Family medicine residents were generally dissatisfied with their training in major teaching hospitals in Turkey. Postgraduate family medicine curriculum needs to be changed and opinions of residents regarding their training should be taken into consideration.
