Investors need to know the efficiency of the stock market to invest their hard-earned money in a profitable way, while the policy makers need the latest information about different indices to devise appropriate policies. Thus, the efficiency of sectoral indices could also help the government to identify efficient sectors and to channel available resources for the growth of such sectors. This paper proposes to investigate the capital market efficiency in NSE (National Stock Exchange) sectoral indices by using daily share price returns. The aim of this study was to examine the weak form efficiency of the selected indices listed in NSE. The study found from the results of sectoral indices that NSE could not be considered under weak form efficiency during the study period.

The movements of stock markets are influenced, by both the micro as well as macro economic variables including the legal framework and taxation policies of the respective economies. The crux of the issue lies in exactly forecasting the future stock price movements of individual firms and stock indices, based on historical past prices. This paper analyses the non- linear movement pattern of the most volatile, top three stocks in terms of market capitalization, listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in India, namely Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Limited and HDFC Bank Limited, using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for the study period from 2008 to 2017. The findings of the st...

It has the major number of listed companies in the world. In September 2008, the Sensex experienced huge falls, along with other markets around the world. Financial markets have become ever larger and financial crises have become more threatening to society. The devastating consequences of these crises stimulated the development of methods for predicting financial turmoil. New approaches to stock market prediction are considered on the basis of the intensity of stock index fluctuations estimated by fractal analysis techniques. Fractal analysis is used to analyse the financial time series. This article examined the fractal dimension in S&P BSE Sensex for pre- and post-recession periods—2004–2008 and 2008–2012 respectively.

In spite of its relevance, there is hardly any consensus about its definition, dimensionality and measurement, which limits advances in research. This review article suggests a comprehensive subjective measurement model for performance of firms, based on indicators and findings of earlier research studies. The final subjective model was developed with nine determinants/dimensions, namely, profitability performance, growth performance, market value performance of the firm, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, environmental audit performance, corporate governance performance and social performance. It is found that these nine dimensions or determinants cannot be used interchangeably since they represent different aspects of firm performance and different stakeholders of firms have different demands that need to be managed independently. Researchers and practitioners may use the proposed subjective model, in empirical studies, to evaluate the multiple performance of a firm.
