ann_wilkes | 08:49 pm - Book signing at SpoConL to R: Jane Fancher, Ann Wilkes, Toby Bishop (aka Louise Marley), Kij Johnson, MJ EnghSpoCon was a blast. I met a lot of superb writers, fans and artists. I'm determined to get my sequel written while my first book, Awesome Lavratt, is still getting good publicity. Nothing like a deadline to light a fire. |

lillywhite1 | **08:33 pm - Newbie!**Hello All,I am new to the community and I wanted to post my story. If this is not the type of thing that's welcome, just let me know. I haven't been able to find anywhere to post original works of sci-fi outside of a fandom.Title: None yet... Chapter 1: A Bad BeginningAutor: lillywhite1Rating: Overall story - R for language and sexual situations and violence This chapter - PG, just the set up, languageDescription: Science Fiction, some fantasySummary: One hundred years in the future, a hot young government agent's life is battered unrecognizable by her virtual termination and her duty to a mysterious child. Alien planets and creatures, inter-dimensional space travel, androids, and a race against time to stop an event that may lead to the destruction of the very galaxy...all suffered by one bewildered woman just trying to have a career...Last chapter: Um...this is the first one. This chapter: Introduction of Terran Sloan, hottest agent in the Unified Earth Investigative Coalition and her unique situation.Word Count: 4,141Author's Notes: This is a work in progress. Chapters will be long and posted infrequently. Sorry guys, I'm in grad school, but hopefully the prodding of my fiancee will be enough to churn out a chapter every couple of weeks, except for finals week.Current Mood: calm |

sara_ane | **07:27 pm - New book club!**Announcing a new community on Yahoo! Groups! Not Just Another Book ClubGive me your overlooked, your long forgotten, and your dog eared. We will take care of them, discuss them, write about them and love them. How many times have you read a wonderful book, wished to discuss it or even find other works about it (fanfiction) and not been able to because the masses are not interested? This is the place for you then!We will primarily focus on older fantasy and science fiction books or more modern books that have simply been overlooked by most people in favor of a skinny magical guy with glasses. There will be a book voted on by the members of the group, discussion of that book, and the file archives will be a place to post your creative works focusing on any literary masterpiece, whether we have discussed that book or not. This will also be (eventually) a haven for links of all things rare and literary. We will allow more popular links also. Being the founder and moderator I am electing the book Treasure Island as our first read.Come one come all |

whosdamike | 01:19 pm - Star Trek gameHey everyone. I hope this post isn't off-topic. It didn't look like it was against community rules, but if it is, delete this post with my apologies.Basically, I'm advertising a Star Trek play-by-e-mail role-playing game. The web-site can be found here:http://www3.hmc.edu/~mqle/ussatlasIt's a game set in 2380, shortly after the events of Nemesis. Premise in a nutshell: old run-down ship, TNG era in the TOS space. The game's set to launch in two weeks. I know there are published writers here, so I don't know if anyone would be interested in wasting time on role-playing... but if you are, drop a comment. We'd love to hear from you.---( A sample of the kind of stuff we're writing there.Collapse ) |

mmaresca | 09:15 amOK, so, new writing project idea.Open ended serial story. Pulp sci-fi space opera stuff. Not entirely sure where I'm going with it. But the plan is to keep writing this (as well as my other projects in incubation)-- and EVERY week add 3000-5000 words. This week's entry is here.If I miss a week? Yell at me.You like it? Let me know. You hate it? Let me know. Bores you silly? Let me know. Have questions? Yeah, let me know. But also-- spread the word. If you have people on your friendlist, groups you belong to, a cousin who might like it--- tell them. Also, there's a livejournal community for it: ussbanshee. Come join that if you're interested. Thanks to you all. |

dahl_cyrus | **01:53 pm - silly question**LJ cuts for long blocks of text are mandatory and anybody repeatedly posting chapters or stories without cutting them may find their posts deleted. LJ cuts are also recommended when the content may be offensive, graphic, or just not for people of all ages. Does this happen atomatically, or do i do it myself? how? |

dahl_cyrus | **01:37 pm - new member**trying to find a place where i can post some of my novel, and get some decent, constructive feedback. maybe here?BTW what is trolling? |

chaosphaere | **01:48 am - Greetings**I wouldn't have really considered myself a serious writer up to now, just somebody who's had a personal (futuristic/space opera/science fiction) universe brewing in their skull for the past 16 years (since age 14).Most of my writing in this tends to take the form a serial work of brief, first-person narratives (often written in a nonlinear fashion, then later filed into proper chronological order) from the point of view of various people in the story. I also write songs, verse, news reports, etc. which also help to tell the story. As a series of short vignettes from multiple points of view, my world has become more soap-operatic in some ways: more driven by the personal dramas of the characters against a backdrop of history and politics, than by anything resembling the standard novel arc.I want to make the jump into writing something actually readable/publishable at one point, rather than just a personal fantasy journal, but to do that I suppose I need to actually learn to write a self-contained short story or novel!Anyway, greetings.I'll probably mostly be lurking for now. |
