sierra - Profile (original) (raw)

on 11 February 2002 (#465349)

San Diego, California, United States

I used to be ARLIA, but LJ purged long-deleted LJs, and I snagged sierra because it makes me think of the environment, as I'm a card-carrying member of the Sierra Club and like the Sierra Nevadas. I made it so my old name is redirected here, to minimize the confusion.

Disclaimer

This is MY journal, not your's. This means that I write what I feel like writing, and I have the right to decide who can read what I write. If you are on my friends list, you will probably see about 85% of what I write, but I want to keep some things private or semi-private. After all, this is MY journal.

My journal is friends-only, and what is in my journal STAYS IN MY JOURNAL, unless I give you permission to tell others. I don't care if you're trying to be helpful, and are addressing a problem I wrote in my LJ. Things are FRIENDS-ONLY for a reason! I don't think you'd like it if I shared friends-only information with people who aren't your friends.

Also, do not assume everyone on my friends list can read everything I post.

I accept all religions, as long as no one tries to tell me I have to believe in a particular religion or that my beliefs are wrong.

If you have a problem with what I write in my journal, don't read it.

Now on to my biographical information:

About Me:

What is there to say, really? My name is Karen, and I grew up around Fort Wayne, Indiana. I recently moved back there after spending the past three years in Bowling Green, Ohio. On May 7, 2005, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. On May 17, 2005, I started graduate school at the University of Toledo (UT or Toledo for short.) I started as a guest, but didn't really like UT, so I decided to apply at the University of Findlay, and got in! I graduated on December 9th, and am glad to have finished that program.

I just finished student teaching. Soon, I'll be able to teach Science and Social Studies to middle school students in 45 states. By the end of April or May, I will also be able to teach Language Arts. Hey, I like A LOT of things. :)

I'm a substitute teacher. I mostly sub for middle school students, but occasionally, I have subbed for elementary classes and twice, I have been assigned to teach high school (though both times, the school closed because of weather). I can't wait to have my own classroom, but until then, I can at least meet other teachers, and see how other teachers plan lessons; as well as get experience with classroom management, wrapping up the class, and transitioning between activities. I figure that's better than getting a job at a bank or grocery store (though I'm considering finding a second job so I can make a little more money.)

I'm Irish-American and German-American, and proud of being both.

I have curly light brownish hair (that sometimes looks dark blonde and gets straightened when I can afford it), and bluish-green eyes. I call my hair and eyes "chameleon", because the shades change. I also currently have green toenails, and hair that's several inches past my shoulders.

I'm a hippie, and I have many interests, and I consider myself to NOT be a "normal" individual, especially because "normal" doesn't exist. However, if it existed, then "normal" people would be boring.

My mom actually said that she would think I am living in 1967, versus 2007, if I wasn't so addicted to the internet and my cell phone.

I also enjoy meeting new people, though I'm extremely shy and usually only add people if they ask, if they add me, or if it's an add-me community. If you really think we'll get along, feel free to add me. I MIGHT add you back. I add most of the people who add me, but I won't add someone who is homophobic, racist, or has some other qualities I can't stand. Also, if I get extremely busy, I might not have time to read your LJ, unless I've known you for awhile, or if you're a close friend, so don't take it personally.

I maintain midwesterners, and I also help co-maintain hoosiers.

What I Hate

Because LJ doesn't have a DISINTERESTS List, I thought I'd list ten of my dislikes:

Snobs

Trolls

Homophobia

Prejudice/Racism/Anything along that line

Close-mindedness

Those who think everyone needs to believe the way they do

People who think they need to debate, fight, or cause drama in my LJ. A journal is NOT a place for debate, unless you join a community for that.

Those who don't respect our environment

People who abuse animals

Drama (except for in movies or TV shows)
