_5:31 pm_[valancystar] | So, let's continue! Everyone seemed to want to continue playing, and later on we might even get new players. So, perhaps we can start playing again now. If nobody objects, I suggest we continue with the scenes we had started. If anyone has other suggestions, questions, comments etc. then post here. Otherwise we can get started. :) (Comment on this) |

_4:00 pm_[valancystar] | Interest in reviving the RPG? Hey all,This RPG sort of died last year all too soon after it started - I think real life things were slowing it down and then it just didn't happen to get continued. But we've been thinking - how about we tried reviving it? Would everyone still be interested in playing? Please comment here whether you'd like to continue playing again, and if so, whether you want to keep the characters you had or change something. We can also generally discuss here anything else that comes up, like if we'll just continue the previous scenes or start again.Of course if you now haven't got the time or the interest to play anymore, I understand, but please comment at least so I know if you've read this and made up your mind.I'll probably also ask around if there are other people interested in joining. I've had some people ask me about this game, so we might even get new members also if this gets going again. Though probably it's best to keep this rather small-scale, not too fast-moving, so that it doesn't get too big for anyone to handle. At least I don't have time for too fast-moving RPGs, but a few posts a day, on the average, are just fine for me.I would be willing to continue playing Elisabeth and Mizzi, but not take on any new characters for now. _10:18 pm_[lapislazuli79] | 14th June 1886, morning; - Feldafing, near Possenhofen, in Bavaria (Elisabeth, Fanny, Ida, Sophie) While everyone at her parents house in Possenhofen was still discussing what had happened, and what could have happened and whose fault it was, Sophie slipped out almost unnoticed. At first she had tried to pretend it did not affect her at all - it was no surprise, it really wasn't a surprise, everyone had known that Ludwig was not normal, and she had also known it, maybe she had known it best of all those people out there. And now they talked about him like they knew everything - but they did not understand .... she didn't not understand eighter, but at least she was not pretending to know ... Her next thought was that someone had to tell it to Sisi, who was staying at her favourite hotel in Feldafing now. She had to tell her, before someone else did. People could do so much harm with words - and Sophie thought it would be better her sister learned it from her then from a stranger. She left alone without bothering to take a maid or someone else with her. She told the coachman to hurry, and that this was really an urgent matter. While sitting in the coach she desperately tried to think of a way to start, but she could not think of anything. She could not think about anything at all. Her mind was blank and when the coachman told her that they had arrived it took her a few moments to remember, why she had actually come. Somehow she wished everything would turn out to have been a big misunderstanding. She paid the coachman and then hurried past the reception desk, without paying attention to the friendly people, who greeted and asked her how they could be of help. She did not need help. She knew which rooms her sister always had when being her.No one could prevent her from hurring upstairs and knocking at Empress Elisabeth's door. _7:36 pm_[sanalith] | OOC Public Service Announcement! While Death is eagerly awaiting his chance to discuss Ludwig's demise with his dear Elisabeth, I thought I'd offer a community-wide Happy Birthday shout-out to one of our esteemed mods, lapislazuli79! I'm not sure if it's still Aug. 4th over in Austria, so apologies if this is a day late, but I hope you had a wonderful day! Many happy returns! ^__^ (4 Comments |Comment on this) |

_12:56 am_[valancystar] | Just some things, OOC Okay, both lapislazuli79 and I have posted scene openings now, so we can start playing at last! I look forward to it. :) (And again, of course, don't worry that you might have to write very long replies. Write as much as you feel comfortable writing. I suspect my Elisabeth will often make me write rather lengthy posts with lots of internal narration, but we'll see how it goes.)In the case some of you didn't notice it from our conversation in one of the posts below: if anyone feels like playing Gisela, Elisabeth and Franz-Joseph's eldest living daughter, let us know. It was her bringing Elisabeth the news of Ludwig's death, and she could also occasionally meet Rudolf, who she was in good terms with (in Ludwig's funeral she would, at least). However, if nobody wants to play her, we'll just have one of Elisabeth's sisters bring the news instead, and do without a Gisela. But if someone wants to play her, there's time for preparation as she won't come in immediately, and on the other hand she's not going to be around all the time, because she's already married and only meets her family sometimes, so she could be played as a temporary character who comes up only on occasion. I'd otherwise offer to play her for the scenes where she might be needed, but it wouldn't make so much sense to play both Elisabeth and her daughter; and since she and Rudolf were close, it wouldn't make much sense for lapislazuli79 to play her, either.Just a quick shout-out about that. I'm trying to remember if there was anything else I wanted to say, but I guess not. Current Mood: happy (Comment on this) |
_12:29 am_[valancystar] | 14th June 1886, morning - Feldafing, near Possenhofen, in Bavaria (Elisabeth, Fanny, Ida) It was morning in the Empress Elisabeth’s apartments in her hotel in Feldafing. Her beloved youngest daughter was attending to her own affairs in her own rooms, and Elisabeth was sitting in a chair, having Fanny Feifalik carefully attend to her hair. This time-consuming activity every morning was a sacred ritual to Elisabeth; yet nowadays she could not but think mournfully back to the times when it had given her still more pleasure: when her beauty had been unparallelled and still unblemished by age. She was still beautiful, she knew it, but she worried more and more that it would soon be reduced to nothing. As had been so many things she had once hoped for in life.Still, these past several days had not felt so very hopeless and sad. Here in her native Bavaria, the pains of the many previous years and the bleakness of the future did not feel so great. She was near her family, was spending most of her days in her old childhood home, and could be away from the nasty, gossiping circles in Vienna. She felt comfortable right now, here in her hotel room, with her trusted Fanny attending to her hair and being sure to arrange it in the most admirable ways; with her dear Ida by her side, ready for conversation if Elisabeth needed any.“It looks to be a beautiful day”, she said to them. “I am thinking I should like a good walk about the lake today. I wonder who I might take for company.” She knew that many of her long-time companions no longer felt fit to take walks at the pace she did, at least not often. But she could still try. _11:09 pm_[lapislazuli79] | Vienna, Schönbrunn Castle: June 14th 1886; dining room:around lunchtime (Franz-Joseph, Stephanie, Ru OOC: Okay. I'll make a start now. I hope I am doing everything right.IC: Yesterday had ended at half past two in the morning. Today had started at six in the morning, and this was no exception for Rudolf. There was too much to do for him, and time was much too precious being wasted with waiting for sleep that would not come. He had to do the work that he was supposed to do, then he needed to work on the things that he supposed necessary to be done. As this work had to be done secretly most of the time, it was twice the effort. And then, like every normal person, Rudolf also had the urge to have a social life – maybe a bit more then most normal persons. It was better to spend one’s time in inspiring company, then succumbing to the thoughts that would come to him, while sitting at home and watching his wife doing needlework. He had spent the morning with the usual monotonous desk work. There were always documents to be signed, letters to be answered. Again there were some contradictive news, about grand-cousin Ludwig of Bavaria, though lately those kind of news came everyday. Rudolf did not like what was going on, though at the moment one could not be sure what to believe and what not. It would be best to wait for everything being officially confirmed. And now the time of the day had come where Rudolf would have to meet his father and his wife and have stiff conversations with them, while trying to enjoy the lunch. By the time he came to the dining room it occurred to him that he actually was not hungry – still it was not a good idea to stay away. Better not strain the tension within in the family much more then necessary. He slightly nodded towards the servant, who opened the door for him and entered the dining room – hoping that he was not late this time. (20 Comments |Comment on this) |

_2:00 pm_[valancystar] | Technical "rules" Since most of us haven't RPed on LJ before, and even I haven't played with more than one other player, I figured there should be a post about how to do it technically. So here are my suggestions of how to do it, and some things I imagine should keep out problems which may otherwise arise (like overly complicated comment threads where you can't follow who says what when). If you disagree or want to question or add something, please comment - these are just my suggestions and I may not have thought of everything. I'll edit this post if anything needs to be changed or added. And I may have gone on to be insanely detailed, or been too confusing. Sorry about that if I have.Suggestions for technical guidelines- Each scene is played as follows: One player makes a post with her character(s) which begins the scene (usually briefly explaining where we are and what's going on with your character, and what she/he does or says now). It doesn't need to be long and detailed, or it can be; whatever feels right. Others reply with their characters' reactions by comments to that post, and so it goes until the scene feels finished (usually when everyone has gone on to do something else, or nobody has anything particular to say anymore). With each new scene, a new post is made. Scenes are, in general, any piece of fairly continuous action and can usually be defined by characters, time and place, though of course characters might go into a different place without needing to change a scene, and new characters may join or some characters may leave the scene. Generally, if you feel it's a new scene, it probably is; no too strict guidelines about that.- If a gathering of several people breaks into two or more smaller groups during the scene, it may make sense to play the discussions of these different groups as different comment threads within the same post. Other than that, when everyone in the scene is talking together, I suggest the comment threads should be kept fairly simple. If the person your character is talking to is not the latest comment in the thread, you should not seek out that person's comment earlier in the thread and reply to it (thus starting a new thread branching out from your comment), but just reply to the latest comment in the thread and indicate who your character is speaking to. That way the comments will reflect the chronological order in which things happen and it doesn't get too confusing. I hope my explanation made sense. - Title of the post should include the time (at least roughly; sometimes it may be something like "9 am on June 14th 1887", sometimes it may be "some time in July" or "a few days after [event X]"), the place and the characters involved. If you want to give the scene a title besides that, feel free, but it's not necessary. The tags should include the word "scene" and the names of the characters involved. Those can be edited later if new characters appear, or if you forget it at first.- LJ seems to deal with long comment threads by making the lines of each comment shorter, the further along the thread we go, so that it still fits the screen. At some point this gets very inconvenient, as you can only fit something like one word per line and a comment of any length gets rather difficult to read (immensely many lines and one word on each... not the easiest reading). So it's advisable that someone in such cases starts a new thread (not a new post) by making her next comment a reply to the original post: that will start a new thread within the same post. In the LJ style I've previously used in roleplaying, we noticed that you should start a new thread after 13-15 comments. I'm not sure if it's the same with this format, so we'll just have to try and see. I'll edit this post when I can tell what is the suitable maximum length of a comment thread here. When a post has 50 or more comments, most of the comments will "collapse" into links which you have to click to read the comment thread, and after that it doesn't really matter how long the threads are. But when there are less than 50 comments per post, someone should remember to start a new thread every now and then to keep it legible.- If you're used to getting comment notifications by e-mail, remember that if there are more than two players per scene, everything that happens will not be in replies to your comments (unless you started the scene). So either track the threads where you're playing so you'll get a comment notification every time someone posts there; or return to read the thread periodically to see if there are new comments. Okay, maybe you'd all understand this anyway, but I thought I'd point it out in any case. If you don't know how to track a thread: go to the "post comment" or "view comments" view of the post, and look at the colourful little icons at the top of the post. The second one on the right, looking like , is the one you click on to track a post and so get notifications of all the comments that are posted in that one.- Specific icons for characters are good if you have them, because then it's easier to get an image of the character you're playing and get into the mood; but they're not necessary. Feel free to have more icons to reflect different moods, or just one per character, whichever suits you. - If in the middle of the roleplaying you feel a need to make some comment yourself about something, a comment that is not a thing said or done by your character or conveniently going into the narrative voice, please put it clearly separate from the things your character actually says and does (put a paragraph break, at least) and mark it with "OOC" or "Out of character". If there's a lot of stuff to discuss out of character, you can always consider creating a discussion post for it.(Hmm, anything I haven't covered? What with my insanely detailed posts, I'm starting to see which part of me it was that got me to once imagine law school was the place for me. Anyway, if it's all too confusing, well, I'll just try to do all of these things at first, like starting scenes and breaking comment threads that get too long, and you'll see what I mean in practice. But I figured I'd at least have some place where it's all explained.) (4 Comments |Comment on this) |

_1:12 am_[valancystar] | How about getting started? Hi all!Almost all the descriptions are in, and apparently Marie-Valerie's won't come in for a while, and she also can't be played yet. So lapislazuli79 suggested, and I agree, that we could start playing now. We'll just write around Marie-Valerie until her player returns; always have her just have been around or come around later but not be present in the particular scenes. I'll anyway write similarly around other characters who 'should' be around but haven't got players so far, like Elisabeth's trusted lady-in-waiting Marie Festetics, or any relatives of her in Possenhofen while she's there. So, if we're starting from Ludwig's death or thereabouts, we have Elisabeth, Fanny and Ida (and Marie-Valerie) in Possenhofen at the time, and Rudolf, Franz-Joseph and Stephanie in Vienna. An encounter between Rudolf and Mizzi will be staged at some point. I thought we could use this thread to discuss how we're going to set the first scenes. In the future, if we need to discuss things instead of just starting a scene, we can either use this post or do a new post for discussion purposes. I also suggest that actual roleplaying scenes will be tagged "scene" so that we can have a link to a page which only shows the actual scenes, if someone wants to read those without the out-of-character discussion. Perhaps discussion threads for future scenes etc. could be tagged "discussion" so that those can be found easily, too.So, any preferences on exactly where and how to start? The players of FJ, Rudolf and Stephanie will have to decide it between themselves; as for Elisabeth, I suggest there could be a scene with her, Ida and Fanny, perhaps on a morning when Fanny is doing Sisi's hair and Ida and Sisi are conversing, so we can all just get familiar with the characters before Sisi is thrown into a great shock by the news of Ludwig's death. If we run out of things to say with nothing special happening yet, it doesn't need to be long, but if we get inspired, it can be. Maybe there can then be another scene when she's had the news and has to talk to someone. And I guess Death can come for a visit any time he likes after Elisabeth has had a while to digest the news... She was quite depressed by Ludwig's death, and also at some point believed she had visions of him visiting her.If someone decides they'd like to play more characters, let us know, as always! I think later on it would be good to have more people from the court, more ordinary people in Vienna (currently Mizzi is the only character outside the court), etc. but that can wait until we've gotten started with the ones we've got now. _7:11 pm_[bianso] | Fanny Feifalik And here's my other one. I hope I haven't violated her person too much. I have a feeling this is grammatically even worse than the previous one.(A thought just occurred: it would be quite scary of someone would RP me over 100 years after my life. o.O)( Fanny FeifalikCollapse ) (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
_6:41 pm_[bianso] | Franz Joseph I'm sorry this took so long, I've had quite a lot in my mind recently. I swear that the game replies won't come this slowly. :)I still haven't had time to do any historical research, so this description might develop later. (Currently this is almost completely musical-based. Shame on me.) My characters also tend to shape during playing, but here are some general things. I apologize for grammatical mistakes.( Franz JosephCollapse ) (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_10:55 pm_[valancystar] | Character descriptions - Mizzi Caspar I think I've been sitting on my Mizzi description for long enough, and might as well post it. It's been a bit difficult to write it since I have only very little information on her, especially at this point in time, and I'll probably know better when I start playing her exactly how I'm going to interpret her. But here are some thoughts and basic things about her, most of them just extrapolations on the things I do know or things that I feel could fit, rather than facts from history books. If I think of more details that would be good to have posted for everyone to read, I'll edit this description to add them.Oh, and there are various spellings of Mizzi's name depending on which book you read (Mitzi Kaspar is seen quite often), but I use this one since it's what Brigitte Hamann and other newer books seem to use. Doesn't bother me if someone else is used to spelling her name differently, though.( Mizzi CasparCollapse ) (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_10:09 pm_[sanalith] | Character Description - Death Like those before me, I apologize for the length of this description. I've never been good at writing short, especially when I enjoy the subject matter so much. For any members who have never seen any of the versions of the Elisabeth musical and desire more (?!) information about the role Death plays, please don't hesitate to ask. Please enjoy!( DeathCollapse )ETA: For some reason it will not allow me to add "Death" as a tag. I also tried "Der Tod" just in case. I'm not sure if this is because only mods can add new tags, or if LJ just doesn't allow any form of the word death, but I figured I'd mention it. ^__^ (11 Comments |Comment on this) |

_11:49 pm_[valancystar] | Character descriptions - Elisabeth I apologise that this is so long; everyone else's descriptions definitely don't need to be this long, but it's very hard to condense all I've read and thought on Elisabeth into just a few paragraphs. And I'm always wordy. Maybe I'll edit this to be shorter if I think of how. But for now, here it is so that we'll at least be closer to getting started. I'll try to finish Mizzi's description soon as well. That one shouldn't be nearly this long.( ElisabethCollapse ) (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_11:08 pm_[lapislazuli79] | Basic rules for posting in the RPG We don't want to make a whole catalogue of rules but there are some things that should be considered so that it stays as easy as possible for everyone to follow, as we are going to have threads going on with different people different places and so on, so everyone who starts a thread please include into the title the time and place where the scene starts, as well as the characters involved. If more characters join during the scene, then their names can of course be added by editing.I am sure there will be other things also to come, that we can also write into this post later. I thought I can already start, though when we started playing we will probably find some more things that might be important. Current Mood: productive (1 Comment |Comment on this) |
_9:37 pm_[lapislazuli79] | More details on starting the RPG valancystar and I have already tried to think of some situation, that would be good to start the RPG with. This would also be a good thing to know when everyone starts to write his character descriptions, so one can figure out, where the persons are standing at that time.First we were thinking about a big public event where many different people could have a reason to be there, but actually we don't need that, as most of the characters we have at this moment somehow belong to the imperial households so, we'll just need something where the members of the imperial families are concerned. The special event that we thought of was the mysterious death of king Ludwig II of Bavaria. As Ludwig was quite a controversial person and the circumstances of his death remain mostly unknown until today - leaving space for at least as many speculations as Rudolf 's death some years later and no-one was indifferent to those events. This occurred in June 1886 - so this is about the point, where we are going to start. Here is a link to an English Wikipedia-article about Ludwig II, his life and his death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_II_of_BavariaPlease tell us, what you think. I hope that is interesting enough to give everyone an ispired point to start with, and that the need for background-info won't block anyone's creativity. Actually the Wikipedia-article already tells a lot and not to forget, we still also have our imagination ;-)As already mentioned the next step for everyone will be to write a character-description. Maybe it is a good idea if every character is posted as a septerate thread - so we can discuss them by commenting. We will also make a Link that leads to all the descriptions for making it easier to find them later. Please write "character descriptions" into the tag-line. This will make it easier to find them again, when linking them.I'll post my Rudolf description as soon as I have it ready. I hope I did not forget to mention anything - somehow I think I have been too long in the sun today ...If you need help with anything or have any questions - just ask!Current Mood: sleepy (3 Comments |Comment on this) |
