On faculty of the University of Oklahoma: head of physics department, 1919-1942, dean of graduate school, 1926-1944, and organizer and director of Oklahoma Research Institute, 1941-1944; a founder, first president, and member of Governing Board of the American Association of Physics Teachers, 1933-1939; director, Office of Scientific Personnel, National Research Council, 1942-1944; president of Norwich University, 1944-1950. Homer Dodge (1887-1983) was born in Ogdensburg, NY, and died at his home, Cremona Farm, near Mechanicsville, MD, where he had lived since 1973. He attended Colgate University and received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Iowa. During World War I, Dodge worked for the government in Washington, DC. In 1919, he went to the University of Oklahoma and served in a number of academic positions there. During World War II, Homer Dodge returned to government work in Washington, DC. He served as president of Norwich University from 1945 to 1950. From 1950 to 1960, Dodge served as chairman of the Cabot fund for aviation education. He was an avid canoeist and engaged in competitions until well into his eighties. Please see the biographical file in Box 2 for additional information on the life and career of Homer Levi Dodge.
