Taggart received B.S. in chemistry from U. Pennsylvania in 1896, becoming an instructor until receiving Ph.D. in 1903. Then he studied in Berlin (1903) and in Göttingen (1903-1905), returning to U. Pennsylvania to become prof. of organic chemistry.
