Célkitűzés: A tanulmány a megküzdési stratégiák mediáló szerepét vizsgálja a munkahelyi stressz, a depresszió és a kiégés viszonylatában. Módszer: Keresztmetszeti vizsgálat 1333 egészségügyi szakdolgozó bevonásával. A résztvevők validált önkitöltős kérdőívek segítségével ítélték meg munkahelyi stresszterheltségüket, kiégettségüket, a depressziós tünetek jelenlétét, valamint megküzdésistratégiapreferenciáikat. Az elemzés strukturális egyenletmodellezéssel történt. Eredmények: A súlyos depresszió prevalenciája 5,6%-os volt. A minta csaknem 50%-a súlyos személyes teljesítménycsökkenésről számolt be. A munkahelyi stressz közvetlenül és közvetetten-a megküzdési stratégiák mediálása által-is előre jelezte a kiégést, illetve a depressziós panaszokat. A megküzdési stratégiák közül a problémahelyzetek reális szemléletét erősítő kognitív átstrukturálás csökkentette a kiégés és depressziós tünetek megjelenésének valószínűségét. Következtetések: A vizsgálat új adatokkal szolgál kognitív szempontú intervenciós stratégiák tervezéséhez, valamint kiemeli a megküzdési stratégiák jelentőségét a depresszió és a kiégés megelőzésében.

To explore work-related stressors including workload among psychiatrists in Hungary. Epidemiological study of a sample of psychiatrists (N=220) to explore the objective and subjective dimensions of workload and the level of burnout. We have found high prevalence of work-related stressors both in terms of objective factors (e.g., high number of work hours and multiple employment) and subjective factors (e.g., feeling stressed, over-loaded with work, lack of peer support, effort-reward inbalance). We have also found low levels of personal accomplishment, one of the dimensions of burnout. High levels of workload and work stress may adversely impact psychiatrists' health status and ma...

Based on these data, we hypothesised that the prevalence of psychiatric and somatic morbidity is higher among psychiatrists in Hungary compared to the other graduate population. Aims. To assess the psychiatric and somatic health status of psychiatrists in Hungary. The aim of the study was to evaluate the associations between self-reported suicidal behaviours (... more The aim of the study was to evaluate the associations between self-reported suicidal behaviours (i.e., ideators, attempters, and multiple attempters) and socio-demographic as well as psychosocial characteristics in the Hungarian population. Methods: Data obtained from two cross-sectional studies performed in 1995 and 2002 with 12,527 and 12,653 respondents, respectively, which were representative of the adult (aged 18 and older) Hungarian population for sex, age, and place of residence. Results: The prevalence of suicidal behaviours decreased between 1995 and 2002, however, in both studies, suicidal behaviours were significantly more frequent among women, the unemployed, people with no partners (divorced/separated), with lower educational attainment, Protestants, and Jews compared to their respective controls. High levels of depressive symptomatology, maladaptive coping strategies such as excessive eating/drinking, misuse of alcohol or medication, or risk-taking behaviour, as well as previous suicide in the family, hostile attitude (primarily within the family), low levels of perceived social support (from one's partner, parents, children and co-workers) have been associated with suicidal behaviours. Conclusion: Although suicidal behaviours share several common psychosocial background factors, high level of depressive symptomatology was the most important risk factor, while the order of the other potential risk factors differed considerably among the different forms of self-reported suicidal behaviour.

There is limited information about the prevalence and potential consequences of burnout and depression among nurses in Hungary. The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between burnout as well as depression and somatic symptoms as well as comorbidities among nurses in Hungary. METHODS Cross-sectional study with self-administered questionnaires among 1,713 nurses. Burnout and depression were assessed by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) and the Shortened Beck Depression Questionnaire, respectively. Somatisation was measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-1 5). Correlates of burnout and depression were assessed by logistic and linear regression analyses. RESULTS The prevalence of depressive symptom and clinical depression was 35% and 13%, respectively. The prevalence of moderate and high level emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and decreased personal accomplishment was 44%, 36% and 74%, respectively. We identified burnout and depression as a predictor of high prevalence of subjective somatisation. Whilst burnout showed a strong association with increased prevalence of hypertension, depression predicted almost all examined diseases, in particular, cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases, as well as neoplasms. CONCLUSION We found high prevalence of burnout and depression among nurses in Hungary. As depression has been shown to be associated with higher prevalence of comorbidities than burnout, its consequences may be more significant. Appropriate prevention, diagnosis, and adequate treatment of burnout and depression may decrease the prevalence of ensuing comorbidities.
