Souten Scans - A Manga Scanlation Community

This is the official LiveJournal community for the scanlation group Souten Scans. Our current projects include The Yu-Gi-Oh Character Guide: Gospel of Truth, the Peach Girl Fanbook, and Code Name wa Sailor V. If you're interested in helping out with any of these projects, drop us a line and let us know!

We strive to bring accurate, beautiful scanlations of manga and other material that would not otherwise be available to English-reading audiences.

We do this by taking time in our translation, checking and double-checking everything from the placement of the text to the fonts used. We prefer to use Photoshop for editing scans of the pages, and fonts such as DigitalStrip and AnimeAce for our translations. Our scans will be retained at a legible, clear size, and packaged together in compressed files, such as ZIPs or RARs. We will have both Direct Downloads and Torrents.

We're currently accepting people for the following positions:
* Scanner (must own the manga in question!)
* Editor (Photoshop; preferably version 7 or CS)
* Translator (must have a good grasp of Japanese writing systems and a way to view/type Japanese on their computer e.x. the Japanese IME for Windows)
* Editor (for the text itself, not the appearance of the file)
* Promotion (for promoting on LiveJournal, on the web, etc.)
* ??? (your idea here!)

Here's how it would work, theoretically:
The SCANNER would scan in the images, touch them up, and resize them to "Scanlation size." They would then send them to the TRANSLATOR (either in PSD or PNG/JPG format), who would either:
a) do a rough translation IN file (a PSD)
b) write a text translation, with some sort of cues to indicate which bubbles go where
The EDITOR would check the TRANSLATOR's work, and then send the files to the PHOTOSHOP EDITOR, who would combine the translation with the actual scan, and make finishing touches to make sure everything is accurate and "pretty." Once enough pages were completed, everything would be packaged together and linked from our webpage and seeded via Torrent. Then the PROMOTER would announce the release of the file, and people could get it!

Are we forgetting anything? Let us know!
