It tries to elaborate what is needed for the industry to move towards a more digital transformation to improve the efficiency on their maintenance operations. Several frameworks are presented in the paper to investigate the needs for additional components such as Internet of Thins hardware, collecting data, and analyzing data. What does it mean to implement such systems and how far from or close to is the industry.

The problems are illuminated both internationally and in the Danish industry to see whether or not there are similarities between these, and what the purpose of the implementation of Internet of Things is in a Danish context.
