[Tags\|anime, convention]This weekend, July 29-30, is Anime Impulse Bay Area. It is the Bay Area version of Anime Impulse from the L.A. area. It was also combined with a Kpop show and a sneaker show by the same group. Maybe not the best idea. The big name guests were ILUNA of Nijisanji EN. All the members attended virtually and had a big panel that cost an additionl ticket. Nijisanji was also a main sponsor. There were a lot of dub voice actors as well like Xanthe Huynh, Kira Buckland, Faye Mata, Erica Lindbeck, Stephen Fu, Adam McArthur. Ate at Starbird Chicken afterward. Everything ended by 8pm.

[Tags\|fandom, film]I went back to the 4 Star Theater for Ultrafest today. I got the day pass. At 11:00AM was Ultraman: The Adventure Begins/Ultraman USA. Preceeded by an episode of Ultraman. At 2:00PM was an episode compilation of Ultraman: Towards the Future/Ultraman Great. Presentation and interview with Jack Shindo actor Dore Kraus before the screening. He talked about what it was like to go to Australia and work on the series. He changed his citizenship to work in Australia and Ultraman was his lucky break. It was supposed to be 26 episodes but it ran over budget and was cut down to 13 episodes. Also, the would not let him keep the UMA uniform or transformation pendant, even though they didn't really have a use for those afterward. He studied Tang Soo Do and Wing Chun. His Wing Chun teacher was William Chung, student of Yip Man and a teacher of Bruce Lee. Tsuburaya Productions packed up and left the South Australia Film Company holding the back for like $7million of budget overrun. That's why the Ultraman series was never aired on TV there. Also an episode of Ultra 7. At 5:00PM was the Ultraman Mebius era movie Superior Ultra 8 Brothers. That was a fantastic movie as a tribute and love letter to the old Ultraman series. They brought back the original actors from the 1960s and 1970s. Before the screening was an episode of Ultraman Ace. At 8:00PM was Shin Ultraman. Hideaki Anno's excellent work and tribute to his nostalgia. Before the screening was the part 2 episode of Ultraman Ace that was shown before the previous screening.

Finish the $36 Ultraburger, a quadruple cheeseburger, and win a ticket and a prize. Actor Dore Kraus is there all weekend. He played Jack Shindo/Ultraman/Ultraman G in Ultraman: Towards the Future/Ultraman Great. I got his autograph. There is a raffle at each screening. I won a prize.

[Tags\|concert, fandom, video games]This weekend, July 14-16, is MAGWest 2023. It was at the San Jose Double Tree again. The logo theme this year was Splatoon since Splatoon 3 released. I just went Saturday. Music guests included The Living Tombstone, Super Soul Bros., Crash Faster, Alice Knows Karate, Da Rap Nerd, and Aniclover. Aniclover does dance remixes of anime songs.
