Revive it or archive it.Time will tell.Tags:ponderings, randomMood:weirdMusic:Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory On the news this afternoon I heard about a rather disturbing story here in Dayton.Apparently, there is a law currently in Dayton (only the actual city limits, but not surrounding cities) that in order to work in the city of Dayton you must also reside in the city of Dayton. They're also to the point of enforcing this law that they will perform extensive investigation of persons who may be circumventing this law. The one story in particular which got me was a man who owns a house in Dayton with his 5 year-old son. However, he started dating a woman who lives in West Carrolton. He started to stay there overnight several nights of the week so he was fired from his job because he was spending too much time residing outside city limits. I say again, he owns a house in Dayton & pays Dayton property tax, but because he spends the night at girlfriend's 1 too many times a week he got FIRED!!!And the amount of money this takes...about 15k per person. Yeah, but the city manager said it's only a small portion of the city budget & it's totally necessary. The mayor of Dayton said she will not budge on this law either. Not to mention there are at least 45 other people under investigation & most of them have been under 24 hour surveillance for over a year! This guy that got fired was too, showing video of him leaving his house, driving to his girlfriend's & even picking up his son from school! This is SICK!!In all honesty he's not circumventing any law. He's not skirting paying Dayton property tax by using a friend's or parent's address. It's his house. If he wants to pay for it but stay the night somewhere else that's his prerogative. Does my city or job have the right to tell me how much time I can spend there?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!?!?!!!!!And do you know what their reasoning is behind this whole law...??? CITY PRIDE!!! Yeah, they think that forcing their workforce like this is gonna make them more proud because they live & work in the same city.I find this even more disgusting because Dayton is not only a large city, but has many small suburbs around. Someone like me, coming from an area where there is a distinct distance between even the larger cities, finds this to be a rather silly law. When I first moved here I could not tell where Moraine ended & West Carrolton began, or Dayton & Centerville, or Miamisburg & Oakwood. Do you see what I'm saying? It's all connected, there is no space in between. I live in Moraine, but work in Kettering. I do my grocery shopping in Beaver Creek & go to the mall in Miami Township, & Berlioz' vet is in West Carrolton. To think that someone who lives across the street can't get a job on the other side because they're on the wrong side of the city line is absolutely ridiculous to me.I suppose I'm of a different mindset from where I grew up. Cause when I'm in Oklahoma, I know when I leave Sapulpa & go to Jenks, Sand Springs, or Tulsa. You have to drive past fields & pastures & that's considered an urban area if you compare it to western Oklahoma. You use the facilities in your town because it's not cost effective or efficient to drive to most other cities, but in Dayton you can do that. It's not a big deal because there's so much compacted together. The whole thing just makes me want to leave this area even more! Honestly, what happens if Moraine or Kettering passes a law like that? There's not many jobs in Moraine. Hmm, my options are Wal-Mart, McDonald's or any other fast food place or...oh wait, that's about it. DX Honestly if that happened then I couldn't even go back to the old Kroger I used to work at cause it's technically in West Carrolton...or was it Miami Township...IT'S ON THE FUCKING CITY LINE & 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE, WHO CARES????!!! I say I should only be limited to where I work by how well I can do my job & how far I'm willing to travel to get there!!!Yeah, I know, nothing for 2 weeks, then a giant exclamation point filled rant, but really I hope this isn't a common thing, or something to become common.Tags:political stuff, ponderings, rantsMood:shockedMusic:JBones watching TV in the living room Good riddance to 2008.I won't make any resolutions, per se, but I will make some mental goals for myself. I say mental because I have a horrible habit of jinxing myself by saying what I want to happen & then it doesn't. So I'll just keep 'em in my little noggin' for now. What I will say is that there are several things to be taken care of, after which will help clear the way to achieve said goals. Until then, I really am in a rock and a hard place. However, 2009 will bring with it one thing that kinda took me by surprise: my 10 year High School reunion. I'm not going, but that's partially because I'm not wasting a trip, money & vacation time just to spend an evening with folks I just don't really care to see. (Hell, most that would show up are already on MySpace, so I know what they're up to, no need to go just for that.) But it's really the fact that I've been out of high school for 10 years now. Ironically, it feels a lot longer, especially when I look back on all that's happened over that time. It's just another one of those life milestones that I wasn't really anticipating, so it just kinda popped up & I'm all like "Whoa, 10 year reunion, whut?"And Johnny turns 30. Sunday. It's not old at all, not even close (even though I bemoan my own age of 27.) It's just another thing that's hard to believe. He was 22 when we met...now that seems so young. OMG, I remember when 30 was out of my dating range, which actually wasn't that long ago since I prefer to keep those I date withing a 5 year age range of me. I guess that's what makes high school seem so far off: it was before Johnny. And I feel like I've been with Johnny forever...in a good way. :3 But when I think back of when I met him, it's hard to believe it's already been 8 years.Time is a strange thing to perceive indeed. Always makes me wonder about the theory that time is speeding up. Cause, sucky as it was, 2008 didn't stick around for too long. I suppose it knew when it's welcome had been worn out. Again, it may just be my perspective. Time seems to have gotten faster since I haven't been in school & I used to wish away so much time then, praying for vacations to come sooner or rushing for the sanctity of the weekend. So perhaps my perception was that time simply wasn't going fast enough. Now with so many things I wish to accomplish & so little time (& money) to achieve them with, I just feel left in the dust.Ah, well, I really should get to bed, again my perception of time is askew, it was just midnight, where did the last 6 hours go. :/ I think a time gremlin ate them. *shifty eyes*Tags:holidays, ponderings, ramblings, randomMood:sleepyMusic:Johnny snoring But I don't think the government should do any sort of auto bailout. >___>I understand that thousands of jobs will be lost &, lets face it, with the amount of businesses making cutbacks, there's not many to go around. However, I feel that if we bail out auto industries we draw a line as to what businesses are more important than others & deserve federal assistance or recognition, whereas smaller ones are simply left to fend for themselves. Also, there's the whole fact that the auto industries are a part of the free market, while it's a dog eat dog/survival of the fittest system it helps keep the government from having too much control over businesses. These auto companies have outsourced thousands of jobs already & one can only imagine the vast sorts of other self-interest actions they have taken at the expense of their employees and the public, all this by taking advantage of the free market economy. Only now realizing the decisions they've made will put them out of business, they beg the government for help.I didn't like the bank bailout, especially considering how we hear the money is being spent, but there is a difference with need to support the backbone of our economy and 3 companies who out grew their britches.Sorry, Ford, Chrysler & GM, you guys should have kept up with the times, marketed cars that most could afford or wanted, made quality products, pushed the envelope (HINT: DVD players in the backseat aren't pushing the envelope!), found better and cheaper forms of fuel...but you didn't. You did what worked for the last 50 years, you may have changed the packaging & added tons of modern gadgets, but they can't cover up the smell of a piece of shit.So even if the auto industry gets it's bailout it won't change it's ways, unless the government steps in. I like Obama, I voted for him & I think he's gonna do great things for this country, but there's a lot of people in Washington & should an auto bailout go through with a stipulation that the auto industries have to answer to the government it's just a step closer to a command economy. Once you step over a line, it's hard to redraw it.A business is a business no matter how big or influential it is. Bigger ones have felled & others came in their place, that's the way it is & nothing stays the same. I never said it was an easy thing...who knows, no other civilization has lasted forever or stayed the same & neither should we. The collapse of our economy may be the start of something new & revolutionary...is it really so hard to imagine? Perhaps because it's been a around for a long time, but so were many other economies of ancient history, we just can't put it into perspective because we never knew anything different.Whatever happens, it seems what's worked for the last century isn't working now & we're just gonna have to get over that fact & work towards something new.Tags:political stuff, ponderingsMood:pensiveMusic:Kung
