problems with drawing up [Apr. 7th, 2010|08:08 pm]Starting Testosterone
Previous Entry Flag Next EntrySo, I gave myself my first shot on monday. The only problem I had was drawing up the T from the vial... I "drew up" .2ccs of air, put the needle into the vial, inverted it, pushed out the air, and then tried to draw up the T. No dice. I would slowly pull back on the plunger and only get little droplets of liquid. I did this at first with a 25g needle and switched to 23 after a few tries. Finally I just pulled the plunger back and waited for it to drip in slowly. Is there a trick to this, or am I just doing something really wrong?

My best guess would be that you'd have better luck with a bigger needle. I draw up with an 18g and have never had a problem. If you're on enanthate or cypionate in the US and you're only taking 40mg (.2cc/mLs if this is the case) of T a week or 2 weeks you might not want to go with an 18G needle because even a 5mL (mLs are equal to ccs) will last you a couple months. Punching big holes with an 18G in a vial that many times will eventually ruin the integrity of the rubber and break the seal, leaving it open for bacteria. This happened to me a few times and as such, I draw up with a 22G now.If this is not the case, ignore all that :-PT is really really thick and it will always take a while for it to drip down the syringe, no worries. I sit and I wait, but I always throw more air in then I need because I'm always pushing a bunch of it out after I draw up. Using a 25G (what I inject with) stinks bad, the 23 is better. Gabe Is there a way to tell if the integrity of the seal has been compromised?2 ways I could always tell were if I pulled the needle out and T kept pouring out the hole and just looking at the rubber seal after I drew my T out one day, there was a mark the size of my 16G left there and you usually don't see a mark. This was a couple years ago so I'm not so fresh, but in general, I think you can hear the air shift. G Cool, thanks for the advice. I guess it caught me off guard because all the instructions I found for doing IM injections hardly mentioned drawing up, now that I know I'm not doing it wrong I don't mind sitting around waiting for it to drip. AnytimeNow that I think of it, if you keep the vial in your pocket for 10 mins before you inject, the warmth will help it flowGabe
