Steven Spielberg - The Living Legend

Steven Spielberg is undoubtedly the most influential and successful living filmmaker.
He is a director, a screenwriter, a producer and an executive of Dreamworks SKG, one of the top production companies in Hollywood as well as the fastest growing company in film history.
In 1975, Spielberg directed "Jaws", which stands as one of the greatest thrillers of all-time, as well as the film that inspired Hollywood types to create the term "Summer Blockbuster".
Since, he has directed such huge films as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", the "Indiana Jones" Trilogy, "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial", "Hook", "Jurassic Park", "The Lost World: Jurassic Park", "AI: Artificial Intelligence" and "Minority Report".
While he is best known for his blockbusters, he is also acclaimed for some of the most moving and most human films of recent years, including "The Color Purple", "Empire Of The Sun", "Schindler's List", "Amistad", and "Saving Private Ryan".
Spielberg has been nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Dirctor category 5 times, winning twice for "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan". "Schindler's List" also took home the award for Best Picture, while "Saving Private Ryan"s loss to "Shakespeare In Love" remains one of the greatest upsets in Oscar history.
As a producer, Spielberg has brought us films like "Poltergeist" (which he also wrote and pretty much directed most of), the "Back To The Future" Trilogy, "The Goonies", "Men In Black", "Gremlins", "Twister" and "The Flinstones". These are what I consider his "bread and butter"... Good or not, he produces these films so he can take financial chances with his own and make films that may or not be box office successes.
For instance, for "Schindler's List", Spielberg took no pay. He saw it as a reponsibility to show what these people went through and considered any personal profit "blood money".
Spielberg has also delved in television a bit, producing shows like "Tiny Toon Adventures", "Animaniacs", "Seaquest DSV", "Amazing Stories", and the first season of "ER". He also produced the alien-based miniseries "Taken". His crowning television achievement is what I consider to be one of the best World War II stories ever put on film, and without a doubt the greatest TV event of all-time, "Band Of Brothers".
I haven't even covered half of Spielberg's achievements.
Through skill and determination, Steven Spielberg has become the King of Hollywood.
And he won't be dethroned any time soon.
