Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penguasaan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan petunjuk teks dalam membaca teknikal material. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester empat tahun ajaran 2016/2017 sebanyak 20 orang dari STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah test tertulis berbentuk test objektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) Penguasaan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan petunjuk sinonim dalam tektikal material dikategorikan bagus. Dalam memahami petunjuk persamaan kata, mahasiswa kesulitan dalam mengambil petunjuk untuk menentukan arti kata sulit. (2) Penguasaan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan petunjuk lawan kata dalam teks teknikal material dikategorikan cukup. Kesulitan mereka disebabkan keterbatasan kosakata, sedangkan teknikal material memiliki tingkat kesulitan kosa kata yang tinggi karena disusun untuk penutur asli. (3)Penguasaan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan petunjuk teks defenisi dalam teknikal material tergolong bagus. Mereka mengartikan kata sulit dengan akurat karena petunjuknya tercantum secara jelas dan mereka menggunakan pengalaman dan pengetahuan umum tentang isi teks dengan baik. Walaupun hasil yang diperoleh telah dikategorikan bagus, akan tetapi kemampuan mahasiswa masih terus perlu ditingkatkan karena kosa kata mereka masih rendah. ABSTRACT Technical materials refer to the material which is designed specifically to prepare a specialized career. This research is a descriptive research. The research conducted with an attempt to find out the students' mastery in using context clue in reading technical material. The subject of the research was twenty students of fourth semester STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru in academic year 2016/2017. The instrument used to collect the data was in the form of objective test. It was found that: (1) the students' mastery in using synonym clue was in good category. They had problem in mastering synonym clue as they made mistake in taking the clue. (2) The students' mastery in using antonym clue was in fair category. The problem occurred due to their vocabulary whereas the vocabulary used in technical material is high as it designed for native speaker. (3) The students' mastery in using definition clue was in good category. The students were able to do the test because the clues were stated clearly. Besides, they also had sufficient experience and background knowledge to deduce meaning. Thus, it can be concluded that the students' mastery in using context clue in reading technical marerial is needed to be improved because they still had limited vocabulary.

This study aims to explain the origin of Minangkabau ancestors in Pasambhan Maanta Marapulai Spee... more This study aims to explain the origin of Minangkabau ancestors in Pasambhan Maanta Marapulai Speech produced by ELTA Record Bukittinggi. This study discusses the origin of Minangkabau ancestors found in the video based on myth. In the preparation of this study researchers used descriptive qualitative methods, which is a method that examines an object by explaining the object. Researchers get supporting data from several books that is literature books, bukujurnal, and other books related to this thesis. In analyzing, the researcher explains the implicit meanings contained in the Maanta Marapulate Extended Speech by both the bridegroom and the bridegroom. The results of this study stated that the ancestors of the Minangkabau people came from the third son of Sultan Iskandar Zulkarnain named Maharaja Diraja, Maharaja Diraja sailed through the Indian Ocean and found an island to the west of Sumatra Island. The island is called Perca Island. Or known also by the name Minangkabau, from there Maharaja Diraja see Mount Merapi then Maharaja Royal along with his entourage went to the top of the Mountain. There they first built the Village, the first village named Siligundi Nan Baselo in Pariangan Padang Panjang. Based on the analysis of the story of the origin of Minangkabau ancestors found in the video Maanta Marapulai Supplement, the researchers concluded that the story is a mythical story.

This research was taken based on the students' problem to memorize, apply, understand and compreh... more This research was taken based on the students' problem to memorize, apply, understand and comprehend the English texts. The students also cannot interpret the authors' message. The purpose of this research is to improve the students' reading comprehension of the first semester of English Study Program of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The participants of this research are the first semester students of English Study Program of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The classroom action research was done in four steps plan, action, observation, and reflection in three cycles. This study shows that Jigsaw Strategy can improve the students' reading comprehension. Based on the data, the percentage improve significantly from the first to the third test. The first test, the percentage was 18.92%, then at the second test was 27.03% and at the third test was 45.21%. At the second and third cycles, there was no students could achieved this level, but the percentage directly increase to 35.14%. Therefore, the students' reading comprehension can be improved through Jigsaw Strategy.

Loyalitas memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan pernikahan. Masalah yang akan diteliti adalah bagaimana ide loyalitas terungkap dalam surat dari Peking. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi, menganalisis dan memberikan penjelasan tentang ide-ide loyalitas terungkap melalui karakter wanita utama, Elizabeth dalamnovel Letter from Peking. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Pendekatan intrinsik diterapkan dalam menganalisis karakter loyalitas terhadap pernikahannya dengan menggunakan teori Robert, pengaturan dan plot. Untuk menganalisis ide-ide, penulis menggunakan pendekatan ekstrinsik, teori hubungan antara sastra dan ide dari Wellek dan Warren. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar tindakan yang dilakukan oleh loyalitas seorang wanita dalam pernikahannya menunjukkan dirinya sebagai sosok perempuan yang kuat di mana ia mampu memasuki seluruh aspek hidupnya. Dia adalah seorang wanita Amerika, yang sangat cinta dengan seorang pria setengah Cina dan Amerika. Karena pendudukan komunis di Peking dia harus meninggalkan suaminya. Dia mencintai budaya Cina yang terus hidup di hatinya. Situs loyalitas terungkap melalui karakter, plot dan pengaturan. Juga, hubungan antara tradisi Cina dan latar belakang Cina yang situasinya pada tahun 1957 diidentifikasi untuk menemukan ide-ide loyalitas.

ABSTRAK Referensi merupakan komponen penting dalam memahami sebuah teks bacaan. Penelitian ini be... more ABSTRAK Referensi merupakan komponen penting dalam memahami sebuah teks bacaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan referensi dalam membaca teks narasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester empat tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebanyak 22 orang dari STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes tertulis berbentuk test pilihan ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan referensi pribadi dalam teks narasi dikategorikan bagus. Dalam memahami referensi pribadi, mahasiswa kesulitan dalam menggunakan referensi yang mengacu ke depan kalimat. (2) kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan referensi demonstratif dalam teks narasi juga bagus. Mereka kesulitan dalam memahami referensi demonstratif karena keterbatasan kosakata dan kurangnya pengetahuan umum tentang isi teks. Walaupun hasil yang diperoleh telah dikategorikan bagus, akan tetapi kemampuan mahasiswa masih terus perlu ditingkatkan karena kosa kata dan motivasi mereka masih rendah. ABSTRACT Reference is one component for comprehending a reading text. This research employed descriptive method. The purpose of the research was to find out the students' ability in using reference in reading narrative text. The subject of the research was twenty two students of fourth semester of 2015/2016 STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The instrument used to collect the data was in the form of multiple tests. From the finding, it was found that: (1) The students' ability in using personal reference was in good category. They had problems in mastering personal reference which refers forward or cataphora reference (2) the students' ability in using demonstratives reference in narrative texts was in good category. The problems occurred because they had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that the students' ability in using reference in narrative text still needed to be improved because they still had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation.

Based on preliminary observation in previous semester, the students' English department was weak in applying tenses in sentence. Thus, this research was trying to find the whether the method text and drill can improve their ability in learning tenses or not as well as to find out the factors that influence its improvement. The type of this research was using Classroom Action Research method. The technique of collecting and analyzing the data was using test, observation, interview and field note. The result of this research is there was significant improving of the students' ability in learning tenses by using text and drill method. Besides, the factors that influence their improving is the learning strategy that the lecture gave during the process of learning, the material that was used, and the media that support in teaching learning the tense.

This article was written to describe the study of the effect of the use of techniques pair check ... more This article was written to describe the study of the effect of the use of techniques pair check and initial knowledge of students on their writing skills in SMAN 1 Bangkinang that can be used as an alternative solution to the inaccuracy of the techniques used by teachers in teaching. The research is experimental penelitianquasi with a 2x2 factorial design, with cluster random sampling techniques. Acquisition datadari test prior knowledge and writing skills were analyzed by t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results showed that (1) the learning outcomes of students who were taught with techniques pair check is higher than the learning outcomes of students who are taught the technique of individual check, (2) students with prior knowledge of high-taught with techniques pair check to get a better result than in students are taught the technique of individual check, (3) students with prior knowledge Low taught the technique of pair check get better results than students taught by using the individual check, (4) there is no interaction between the two techniques and knowledge early on skills write.

At the beginning of this study, IVB grade students in 022 primary schools in Kampar face some pro... more At the beginning of this study, IVB grade students in 022 primary schools in Kampar face some problems in mastering English vocabulary. Some vocabulary learning model has been applied to improve their vocabulary. However, the study failed to increase their vocabulary. These circumstances affect their learning outcomes. Because of the lack of vocabulary, most of them do not reach the predetermined KKM. Therefore, this study was conducted. The purpose of this study was to clarify whether the use of children's songs can increase the students' vocabulary and to identify the factors that influence changes in their vocabulary for the use of a children's song. This research was carried out with the design of classroom action research during two cycles. The results showed an increased level of positive vocabulary. Their ability to give meaning to a vocabulary that have been studied increased from 70 in cycle 1 to 87 in cycle 2. their ability in spelling also increased from 57 in cycle 1 to 86 in cycle 2. Then, their ability in using vocabulary appropriate to the context of the sentence also increased, from 75 in cycle 1 to 84 in cycle 2. In addition, the factors affecting changes in vocabulary they also identified, namely the use of a children's song that is interesting, learning activities for the use of the children's song gives way to the them to pay attention to spelling, meaning, and how to use koskata in the right context and learning activities also provide an opportunity for repetition of new vocabulary.

This research is a descriptive research which has one variable that is to study the ability of the fourth semester students of English Study Program of FKIP of University of Riau in providing word(s) to complete a text. After analyzing the data of the students' ability in providing word(s) to complete a text, the writer comes to the conclusions that the mean score of students is 58.7. It means that the level of ability of the fourth semester students of English Study Program of FKIP of University of Riau in providing words to complete a text is in mediocre level and most of them (23 out of students or 62.2%) are in good level.

This study describes and concluded that the existence of teaching reading narrative texts for hig... more This study describes and concluded that the existence of teaching reading narrative texts for high school students using varied techniques have touched the substantive area. 3-2-1 techniques are cooperative learning techniques have been reconstructing the individual instruction that has been applied in schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of learning techniques and reading motivation of students to learn English results. This research used experimental method with 2x2 factorial design and conducted in SMAN 1 Bangkinang Opposite, Riau with a sample of 2 classes. Results of the analysis of the data reveals that: (a) students who are taught by the 3-2-1 technique showed better results than students taught using conventional techniques, (b) students who have high motivation techniques taught by 3-2-1 shows the results of the study as well as students who are taught by using conventional techniques, (c) students who have low motivation taught using 3-2-1 techniques showed better learning outcomes than students taught using techniques conventional, and (d) there is interaction between the use of techniques learned by the students' reading motivation. However, the results of different values between the experimental group with the control group to measure achievement in this study that the 3-2-1 technique has a better effect than with conventional techniques. On the other hand, students 'reading motivation affect students' reading results.

Mereka mengartikan kata sulit dengan akurat karena petunjuknya tercantum secara jelas dan mereka menggunakan pengalaman dan pengetahuan umum tentang isi teks dengan baik. Walaupun hasil yang diperoleh telah dikategorikan bagus, akan tetapi kemampuan mahasiswa masih terus perlu ditingkatkan karena kosa kata mereka masih rendah. ABSTRACT Technical materials refer to the material which is designed specifically to prepare a specialized career. This research is a descriptive research. The research conducted with an attempt to find out the students' mastery in using context clue in reading technical material. The subject of the research was twenty students of fourth semester STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru in academic year 2016/2017. The instrument used to collect the data was in the form of objective test. It was found that: (1) the students' mastery in using synonym clue was in good category. They had problem in mastering synonym clue as they made mistake in taking the clue. (2) The students' mastery in using antonym clue was in fair category. The problem occurred due to their vocabulary whereas the vocabulary used in technical material is high as it designed for native speaker. (3) The students' mastery in using definition clue was in good category. The students were able to do the test because the clues were stated clearly. Besides, they also had sufficient experience and background knowledge to deduce meaning. Thus, it can be concluded that the students' mastery in using context clue in reading technical marerial is needed to be improved because they still had limited vocabulary.

This study discusses the origin of Minangkabau ancestors found in the video based on myth. In the preparation of this study researchers used descriptive qualitative methods, which is a method that examines an object by explaining the object. Researchers get supporting data from several books that is literature books, bukujurnal, and other books related to this thesis. In analyzing, the researcher explains the implicit meanings contained in the Maanta Marapulate Extended Speech by both the bridegroom and the bridegroom. The results of this study stated that the ancestors of the Minangkabau people came from the third son of Sultan Iskandar Zulkarnain named Maharaja Diraja, Maharaja Diraja sailed through the Indian Ocean and found an island to the west of Sumatra Island. The island is called Perca Island. Or known also by the name Minangkabau, from there Maharaja Diraja see Mount Merapi then Maharaja Royal along with his entourage went to the top of the Mountain. There they first built the Village, the first village named Siligundi Nan Baselo in Pariangan Padang Panjang. The students also cannot interpret the authors' message. The purpose of this research is to improve the students' reading comprehension of the first semester of English Study Program of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The participants of this research are the first semester students of English Study Program of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The classroom action research was done in four steps plan, action, observation, and reflection in three cycles. This study shows that Jigsaw Strategy can improve the students' reading comprehension. Based on the data, the percentage improve significantly from the first to the third test. The first test, the percentage was 18.92%, then at the second test was 27.03% and at the third test was 45.21%. At the second and third cycles, there was no students could achieved this level, but the percentage directly increase to 35.14%. Therefore, the students' reading comprehension can be improved through Jigsaw Strategy.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan referensi dalam membaca teks narasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester empat tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebanyak 22 orang dari STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes tertulis berbentuk test pilihan ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan referensi pribadi dalam teks narasi dikategorikan bagus. Dalam memahami referensi pribadi, mahasiswa kesulitan dalam menggunakan referensi yang mengacu ke depan kalimat. (2) kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan referensi demonstratif dalam teks narasi juga bagus. Mereka kesulitan dalam memahami referensi demonstratif karena keterbatasan kosakata dan kurangnya pengetahuan umum tentang isi teks. Walaupun hasil yang diperoleh telah dikategorikan bagus, akan tetapi kemampuan mahasiswa masih terus perlu ditingkatkan karena kosa kata dan motivasi mereka masih rendah. ABSTRACT Reference is one component for comprehending a reading text. This research employed descriptive method. The purpose of the research was to find out the students' ability in using reference in reading narrative text. The subject of the research was twenty two students of fourth semester of 2015/2016 STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The instrument used to collect the data was in the form of multiple tests. From the finding, it was found that: (1) The students' ability in using personal reference was in good category. They had problems in mastering personal reference which refers forward or cataphora reference (2) the students' ability in using demonstratives reference in narrative texts was in good category. The problems occurred because they had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that the students' ability in using reference in narrative text still needed to be improved because they still had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation.

Thus, this research was trying to find the whether the method text and drill can improve their ability in learning tenses or not as well as to find out the factors that influence its improvement. The type of this research was using Classroom Action Research method. The technique of collecting and analyzing the data was using test, observation, interview and field note. The result of this research is there was significant improving of the students' ability in learning tenses by using text and drill method. Besides, the factors that influence their improving is the learning strategy that the lecture gave during the process of learning, the material that was used, and the media that support in teaching learning the tense.

Acquisition datadari test prior knowledge and writing skills were analyzed by t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results showed that (1) the learning outcomes of students who were taught with techniques pair check is higher than the learning outcomes of students who are taught the technique of individual check, (2) students with prior knowledge of high-taught with techniques pair check to get a better result than in students are taught the technique of individual check, (3) students with prior knowledge Low taught the technique of pair check get better results than students taught by using the individual check, (4) there is no interaction between the two techniques and knowledge early on skills write.

At the beginning of this study, IVB grade students in 022 primary schools in Kampar face some pro... more At the beginning of this study, IVB grade students in 022 primary schools in Kampar face some problems in mastering English vocabulary. Some vocabulary learning model has been applied to improve their vocabulary. However, the study failed to increase their vocabulary. These circumstances affect their learning outcomes. Because of the lack of vocabulary, most of them do not reach the predetermined KKM. Therefore, this study was conducted. The purpose of this study was to clarify whether the use of children's songs can increase the students' vocabulary and to identify the factors that influence changes in their vocabulary for the use of a children's song. This research was carried out with the design of classroom action research during two cycles. The results showed an increased level of positive vocabulary. Their ability to give meaning to a vocabulary that have been studied increased from 70 in cycle 1 to 87 in cycle 2. their ability in spelling also increased from 57 in cycle 1 to 86 in cycle 2. Then, their ability in using vocabulary appropriate to the context of the sentence also increased, from 75 in cycle 1 to 84 in cycle 2. In addition, the factors affecting changes in vocabulary they also identified, namely the use of a children's song that is interesting, learning activities for the use of the children's song gives way to the them to pay attention to spelling, meaning, and how to use koskata in the right context and learning activities also provide an opportunity for repetition of new vocabulary.

This research is a descriptive research which has one variable that is to study the ability of the fourth semester students of English Study Program of FKIP of University of Riau in providing word(s) to complete a text. After analyzing the data of the students' ability in providing word(s) to complete a text, the writer comes to the conclusions that the mean score of students is 58.7. It means that the level of ability of the fourth semester students of English Study Program of FKIP of University of Riau in providing words to complete a text is in mediocre level and most of them (23 out of students or 62.2%) are in good level.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of learning techniques and reading motivation of students to learn English results. This research used experimental method with 2x2 factorial design and conducted in SMAN 1 Bangkinang Opposite, Riau with a sample of 2 classes. Results of the analysis of the data reveals that: (a) students who are taught by the 3-2-1 technique showed better results than students taught using conventional techniques, (b) students who have high motivation techniques taught by 3-2-1 shows the results of the study as well as students who are taught by using conventional techniques, (c) students who have low motivation taught using 3-2-1 techniques showed better learning outcomes than students taught using techniques conventional, and (d) there is interaction between the use of techniques learned by the students' reading motivation. However, the results of different values between the experimental group with the control group to measure achievement in this study that the 3-2-1 technique has a better effect than with conventional techniques. On the other hand, students 'reading motivation affect students' reading results.
