A little info about the band...
"Every year San Francisco's largest rock radio station, Live 105, has a contest to find one local band to play their annual Summer Festival, "BFD". Street to Nowhere singer/songwriter, Dave Smallen, had no band, no management, and no funding, but had recorded a few demos with the help of some friends. In June 2004, he decided to submit a song to the contest. Usually the winner is selected by call in votes, but this year the station decided to host a battle of the bands at San Francisco club, Bottom of the Hill instead. Street to Nowhere's recording was selected by the Live 105 staff, and Dave showed up to the show alone, as usual, with just an acoustic guitar. He played. And he won. This gave Dave the opportunity to perform live, on air, on live 105, as well as opening at the Shoreline Amphitheater, playing support for bands like The Strokes, Beastie Boys and The Killers.

Shortly Thereafter, Dave began to play more and more shows, he quit art school, and moved back to Oakland to start a band. He recruited high school friend, Bryce Freeman, to play bass, and with a rotating lineup of borrowed drummers and guitarists, Street to Nowhere began searching for their place. Sometimes, they've found themselves playing support for bands like, Gomez, Two Gallants, The Matches, Jack's Mannequin, OK GO and other times with Singer/Songwriters like Katie Melua, David Dondero, and Rocky Vatolato. In addition to playing support at SF clubs Slim's, Bimbo's and The Independent, and headlining at Bottom of The Hill, Blakes On Telegraph, and the now defunct iMusicast, they have also toured the west coast, playing shows at clubs, colleges, coffee houses, bars, teen centers, street corners, wherever there were people willing (or unwilling) to listen.

Recently, Street to Nowhere finished their first full length album with producer/engineer, Matt Radosevich (The Matches, Taking Back Sunday, Two Gallants). The recordings started as demos in their parent's basements and living rooms, but as time went on, they found themselves, through other's generosity, in bigger studios with nicer equipment. They played most of the instruments themselves but borrowed friends from Bay Area bands, The Matches, Audrye Sessions, Push to Talk, and Desa, to round out the recording. The Album, Charmingly Awkward, was self-released on November 26th, 2005 with a sold out CD release show at Bottom of the Hill." -- from Street To Nowhere's blog on Myspace
