This is a constructive criticism (concrit) community for Suikoden fanfiction. Authors may post their stories, and readers may comment on them.

On posting

  1. Clearly specify which game(s) your story is based on (S1, S4, S2, Gaiden vol. 1, a S2/S3 crossover, etc).

  2. Use an LJ-cut for fic content. For information on how to LJ-cut, go here.

  3. Also LJ-cut any spoilers. Remember, not everyone has played/finished every game.

  4. You may also post discussions related to fanfiction and fandom.

If you aren't sure how to introduce your story, here's a generic format you can follow. :)

Title: [Your fic title]
Game(s): [Again, which Suikoden game(s) your story is based on]
Genre: [Is it Drama? Angst? Action? Parody? Romance? More than one? etc. If Romance, specify yaoi/yuri/het]
Pairing/Coupling: [If applicable. It's completely optional. You can specify one or more or leave it a mystery]
One Shot or multiple chapters: [List one or the other]
Rating: [MPAA's blowing a capillary, so use K/K+/T/M as opposed to G/PG/PG-13/R. No MA/NC-17]
Warnings: [Got any warnings? Gore, implicit sex, domestic abuse, rape, language, crude humor, etc.]
Summary: [Give us an idea of what the story's about. I recommend lj-cutting this if it contains a spoiler from a game. For example, after so-and-so's death, or a recap of an important event]
This format followed by an lj-cut of your story.

On fanfiction

  1. You may post one-shots. For multi-chaptered stories, please post enough to judge by (usually a prologue and first chapter, or first two chapters, is fine. Just don't post the whole thing). You may also upload your fic elsewhere and link to it from here.

  2. For works-in-progress, you may post excerpts from chapters that you feel you need help with. If you want to post a whole chapter, and it's a later chapter, please link to it instead.

  3. No drabbles or screenplay format. While I have nothing against these, I find it difficult to give concrit to either one of these.

  4. No crossovers with non-Suikoden material, Alternate Universe, or stories based on RolePlay/Interactive Fanfiction. Again, nothing against these, but readers may not be familiar with the universe(s) you have established or otherwise included in your story.

  5. No NC-17/X-rated/pornographic content. Yaoi/yuri is fine. If your story contains strong or otherwise objectionable content, please post a warning.

  6. Be realistic and honest. Don't sabotage your story with inaccuracies. It is better to say, "I think I did a decent job with the characterization, but I feel the detail on the fight needs work" rather than "Well, I KNOW my fic sucks! Gimme a break!" or "This is the greatest thing you will ever read! Nothing else compares!"

  7. Try to follow basic grammar rules. Spellcheck. If I see something like this--"ok 1 day tir and germio went 2 sk0ol adn got a dormroom w/ phan and it wuz teh shiznit lilolool!!!11 lolrofflecopterz"--I'll assume you don't care and it'll get deleted.

On conduct

  1. Be civil. People are not always going to say things you like or necessarily agree with. Try not to take it personally. You can disagree with something but no personal attacks, flaming, trolling, or feuding. If something is really bothering you, then take it up with the person in private or join one of many rant communities all over LJ.

  2. Failure to follow the posting or fanfic rules will result in a warning. The second time, your entry will be deleted without warning. Offenders will be booted from the community on the third time. Fair enough, I believe.

***Concrit is highly encouraged! Do! Do give concrit! :) If you appreciate a piece of advice someone has given you, feel free to spread some of that around. If you've got expertise in one area, do help another author who might need it.

Freedom of Speech Fan Fiction - A smaller but more user-friendly general fanfiction archive. Complete with Suikoden section and general fanfiction forum.
MediaMiner.org - Anime FanArt & FanFiction - Also has some videogame fanfiction, including Suikoden.
Fandomination.Net - Smaller general fanfiction archive, but has a Suikoden section.
fictionised.net :: Where fiction meets reality... - Again, smaller archive, but contains Suikoden section.
skyhawke dot com - v2.1 - General fanfiction site. Appears to be invite-or-request only.

RPGamer - Has a moderated RPG fanfiction archive. However, section now dead.

RPG Dreamers - Contains small, partly moderated RPG fic archive. So far only Suikoden 3 fanfiction, but you may send fics for other Suikoden games as well.
