Description

Rotgar fought to remain alive as his mangled and crushed body was lain on the warm marble floor of the temple. He did not want to die, not from losing a worthless fight for vengeance. This was the only way.
The Bloodrite began with the haunting sounds of the Blood priests hymns, exhilarating his body in a feverish state. The barely lit room was damp and the air thick allowing a single streak of light from a hole in the ceiling.
One of the priests broke the circle of hymning men and moved towards the beam of light with his body flat over the floor like a slithering reptile. The chanting became louder building up to a sudden silence as the priest arrived at the beam of light.
The silence felt louder than any sound Rotgar had ever heard, something was about to happen. A roar as if from the deepest pits of hell itself emerged from the priest body who laid flat on the lit floor right in front of his own. The priest's body raised upward, his head towards the light, his mouth joining the roaring sound that seemed to emerge from his stomach forming a choir of hellish screams. The priests' stomach opened up and a vast purple smoke bellowed from it's core, a swarm of ghostly bats seemingly traveled through the smoke towards him. The air got thicker and there was no escape from the purple smoke as it filled Rotgar's lungs. A scratching pain ran though his veins joined with a feeling of power above any other. His bones moved like snakes and his flesh crawled as a swarm of cockroaches.
The priest held up a knife as if to strike his own body. The purple smoke shrouded the room in darkness as the screams stopped. Within a flash all the smoke disappeared into oblivion as if it had never been there at all.
The lifeless mangled body of the priest with a knife pressed deep into his stomach lay next to him. Rotgar got up, his body no longer broken, his mind clear.
