Heads up to anyone living in the Atlanta area:There will be a very casual tarot meeting at the 11:11 Teahouse in Cabbagetown, Atlanta this Monday night at 8pm. No set idea of what it will entail, but I assume it will turn into a tarot swap and/or discussion group. I imagine the group won't be very big as this is first week, but all are welcome!(Leave a comment) |

So...I think I'm getting the hang of this. But whoa, this reading that I did is spooky in its accuracy. I've been going by www.learntarot.com's interpretations (doing it myself first, then confirming to see if I'm right). What do you think of this? I'm using the Celtic Cross, and the Rider-Waite deck.1-Ace of Cups2-7 of Cups3-3 of Swords4-Justice5-9 of Cups6-Knight of Swords7-2 of Swords8-Devil9-9 of Swords10-9 of PentaclesThe overall impression I'm getting (in my limited experience) is that I should just let go, let things take their course. I do tend to be stressed and a control freak. But really, I can't think of anything that needs letting go of. I mean, I've had slight confusion over spirituality, and a little more than slight frustration with my significant other, but neither merits change, in my opinion. If I'm right in my interpretation, what course of action do you think would be most wise?(Leave a comment) |

So everyone, tell me what is/are your favorite deck(s) to read and why?My favorite deck so far is the Londa Tarot. It's an out-of-print US Games deck from several years ago. However, I have uploaded images of each of the cards if you'd like to take a look. I am particularly fond of this deck mainly because it spoke to me the moment I saw it. I am primarily a sight-reader, and these images are so richly inked and colored and very expressive. Each character in the deck seems to stare straight into my eyes, burning the chard's meaning into my brain. Reading the major arcana of this deck is like breathing for me. So amazing...My favorite deck for dark readings is Crowley's Thoth Deck. The images in this deck are jam-packed with symbolism. Were I to research each symbol it would take me years to completely comprehend everything I see. What I like most about this deck is that it's straight forward and uncompromising. Some decks seem to sugar coat everything, almost adding a "...but in a good way" to the end of every minutely negative statement. This deck reads like a razor for me, and I appreciate it when I need it.Again, these are only my perceptions of these decks. I am interested to know what decks each of you are fond of and why, even how they work for you. I'm particularly curious to see what other people might have to say about these decks... Let me know!(Leave a comment) |

-pokes community- Are you alive?!I'm getting a little frustrated. I just started reading Tarot about a year ago, but I can't seem to get the hang of it. I've been doing the Celtic Cross spread and have been following my Rider-Waite's little instruction booklet. The meanings it gives are so vague, and even when I just sit back and look at the cards I can glean nothing. I also...don't really trust myself without someone helping me and telling me if I'm doing it right. I feel like I might succumb to wishful thinking and unconsciously interpret the cards to mean what I want them to. I've bought Eden Gray's The Complete Guide to the Tarot, but I haven't started it yet. Is that even the right route to take? Or are there simple exercises I could do with my cards, in conjunction with the book or instead of it?Thanks...(9 comments | Leave a comment) |

Shameless plug.. I admit it...psivampyre is for those of us who don't have a community on LJ and it's being designed as an open discussion journal with resources and hopefully a little bit of help.I don't claim to know everything about being a psychic vampyre, but I am one. I haven't found any really great resources online (well a few!) and I've come short when looking for vampyre community types in my area. So, the next best solution... START ONE!Open to all vampyres (sanguine or psi) and black swans (friends).(Leave a comment) |

Hello people. This is just a random musing.I was doing some readings last night with my cards and my runes. I usually do a 3 rune spread and the Celtic Cross tarot spread. Anyway, maybe it's just me, but anyone else who does the Celtic cross spread, do you find that the "staff" (not the 6 cards in the "cross") always make more sense than the cross bit? If that makes sense... For me all the cards that go into making up the "cross" just seem kind of wishy-washy and vague, but the cards in the staff seem to be really precise.Sep. 24th, 2006 @ 02:25 pm(1 comment | Leave a comment) |
» The Beginning of Transformation |
I couldn't sleep. I got up and decided to do that reading I've been putting off about Chris, since I seem to be awake. It was very interesting indeed. I did the usual celtic cross spread, asking specifically about what this new relationship means to me.Understand that for now I feel very leery. It's almost too good to be true, as I mentioned previously. But this reading has cleared up quite a few things for me. ( THE READINGCollapse ) So the reading for me is a strong indication that this is a good phase of life that is coming into play. I don't need to fear, but rather trust my intuition and realize that the transformation that began when I broke away from the old influences is a good one. Though the past cannot be returned (one of the cards specifically said that, don't remember which one), it is possible to reconcile the old with the new for myself and bring about completion. I think I need to write that letter and then keep moving forward.Jul. 11th, 2006 @ 03:41 am(2 comments | Leave a comment) |

Hey guys!I was thinking it would be fun to have an interactive activity of sorts to strengthen the community- using tarot cards or otherwise- but I can't think up very many good ideas. I was thinking perhaps a question that we could put out weekly, and those interested in doing a reading based on the question could post their results. Or have a tarot card design contest, but I'm not that graphically gifted. Let me know if any of you have great ideas! Sorry for the long absense of the card-a-day- I was in Japan for two weeks and I've just recovered from the trip : )Take care!AshleyJul. 10th, 2006 @ 05:05 am(Leave a comment) |
» THE TOWER- Thoth Tarot Deck |
The Tower is a powerful card and I will start by first listing the interpretation of the Tower, then I will add a lot of personal commentary:( The interpretation:Collapse ) PERSONALLY:I have always thought that the Tower card was a powerful card, and I have seen it once before in a personal tarot reading. It frightens me when I see it, for it signals the ultimate destruction of bad influences and cycles I have been in and cling to.I have been, for the past four years, involved in a relationship that I believed was good for me. I thought that it was a healing and transforming force to help me get out of a very bad situation, which was true to an extent. It changed me and allowed me to grow into the place where I am. That relationship in the last year has proven itself to be static, no longer dynamic. And it has become a poison. He is emotionally controlling and ungiving, prefering to take power for himself by refusing emotional rights to me. He has been a great friend and a good listener to me for a long time when I needed it the most in my life. He was initially the transforming power and as such I became emotionally invested even though he wasn't. In 4 years, he hasn't once wanted to "date", but prefered the emotional act of sex as a given for him. He calls it making love, I call it sex. He is as emotionally confused as I am, even though on a physical and mental level, he was the transforming force. I gave him everything I could, even the benefit of the doubt, for those years, hoping that he would one day decide to start dating seriously and enter an emotionally invested relationship with me. That has never occurred and for 4 years I haven't once considering dating anyone else (at least not seriously). I had closed off other opportunities for this one and it was becoming ever more toxic. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.**( MY PERSONAL TOWER:Collapse )**Jul. 6th, 2006 @ 02:35 am(8 comments | Leave a comment) |

So I'm curious-what do other people do to get ready for a reading? Do you simply set your mind to it, or do you have a set ritual that you do before, during, and after? A friend of mine uses the silk she wraps her cards in as a workspace (it's big enough) and lights a candle, depending on the type of reading she's doing...I personally make sure my hands are clean and I use a neutral-scented lotion (I'm currently infatuated with Healing Garden's White Tea) to give myself an easier time shuffling, and then make sure that the surface I'm working with is absolutely clean. If I'm reading just for me, I take a few minutes and consider what exactly it is I'm seeking insight on, and if it's for someone else, I ask them about it, try and find out why they're seeking knowledge in this fashion (especially if they're really skeptical), and get an idea of what kind of person they are.Jun. 19th, 2006 @ 05:34 pm(3 comments | Leave a comment) |

Deck: Thoth Tarot DeckQuestion: My current spiritual path. I am entering branch new spiritual branch on my path. What advice is there for me that I should heed?1. Cover card- The Moon2. Crossing card- The Hanged Man3. Trends I am conscious of- 2 of Swords- Peace4. Trends I am not conscious of- 9 of Swords- Cruelty5. Past influence- Princess of Wands6. Future influence- 5 of Wands- Strife7. Myself and my views- 4 of Cups- Luxury8. My environment and what surrounds me- 8 of Wands- Swiftness9. Hopes and Fears- Ace of Cups10. Outcome- The EmpressMajor takeaways- This path is the beginning to a higher conscious understanding of the self and my path. As such the decision I have made is a good one. I am entering a path where it will be important to enter with a sense of respect. This is not a path lightly taken, it is not the path of the Fool, it is a path where careful consideration will have to be taken step by step. Inner peace is key when entering a phase that starts with the Moon card. Inner peace allows for maximum ability to reason, think and be creative. I am coming out of the phase in life where I have conquered fear and I am moving into a phase of strife, where it will be important to keep an eye on the goal and it will be important to not give up easily; turning back is less optimal than pushing through. I start this path with the love and support of those around me, though they may not know the decisions I have made. To overcome strife, one must be willing to swiftly communicate hesitation with someone who is trusted and to receive help from others without becoming dependent upon their help and love. My hope is for this path to fill me to capacity emotionally and to satisfy me spiritually. This path, if followed with care and persistence will lead to a completion of myself. I will become the Empress, the evolved form of a femininity. Great things spring forth from the fertile mind of the Empress and she is the mother of all that comes afterwards.Things to beware of- On this path, some may offer their assistance as teachers. I need to be careful whom I choose as a mentor on this path. I must be careful of being overly cruel to myself emotionally and psychologically. Many times it is easy for me to undermine myself without even realizing it. The way to counter cruelty towards the self is to gain love for the self. Be careful to not give up, and look ahead to the fire of the wands that burn with the fire of the Lion within (I am a Leo :) ). These fires burn regardless of the restriction and strife that bars the way. And persistence will overcome these restrictions in the long run.For some background, the initial question was about my involvement in the Temple of Set, to which I was granted membership on March 18th of this year. It is Satanic in that it takes the non-natural approach to spirituality, understanding that the self is not in the least bit a part of nature, for it is un-natural. It follows the original Priesthood of Set from Ancient Egyptian times before the religion of the country was standardized and Set was cast strictly into the evil murderous god who killed Osiris. Set is the equal to Horus the Elder (not Horus the Younger, whom Egyptologists recognize as the deity who was the son to Osiris). Ruler of the southern kingdom of Egypt and lord of the darkness and night.I have no problem at this point stating that I am a Setian. I intend to make this my path from this day forward. And of course the tarot card reading was a helpful consideration.Jun. 18th, 2006 @ 10:26 pm(Leave a comment) |

Just curious- which cards do all of you feel a special affinity with and why?I feel especially strongly about the High Priestess, and I'm fairly certain a lot of you also feel close to it. It feels to me one of the most feminine of the Major Arcana, though I know there are fairer arguments either that the Empress is the most feminine, or that none of the cards have genders. I put a lot of weight on intuition, the significance and importance of dreams and dreamy spiritual states. I also feel I can root out secrets and hidden aspects and feelings of others. I used to be very concerned with finding my spiritual path, and this card spoke to me. However, lately I've been changing a lot, and I've become less and less the quiet High Priestess. I'm not sure which card will be my next associate.Jun. 18th, 2006 @ 07:56 pm(10 comments | Leave a comment) |
» The Thoth Tarot Deck |
Wow! I got this new deck today, after much recommendation and urging by others. Mostly, I was curious about the deck that Aleister Crowley built, so to speak. So I bought the cards and a book by Gerd Ziegler that accompanies the Thoth Tarot. And.. WOW! The artwork is so beautiful. I did a reading for myself for the first time in a long while from the Ziegler book using a spread about self-balance. I asked particularly in relation to work and used a different shuffling method and card selection method that's recommended by Ziegler's book. And ... well the reading was dead on and gave me a lot to think about on a much deeper level than any previous tarot deck I have ever read from. So yeah... highly recommended to buy the deck and the accompanying book by Ziegler. You will learn a lot of symbology and a lot about making readings really stick.Incidentally this is the first deck where I've read for myself and not been able to "soften" the interpretation personally or slant it a certain way. This deck definitely lays it out for you.Jun. 16th, 2006 @ 08:34 pm(5 comments | Leave a comment) |

» Opinions/Interpretations welcome |
Just a quick preface:I just did a reading for myself while camping in the mountains the other day. The question/desire was of a general understanding of my situation at hand which involves losing a mundane job I believe as an omen to seek work in fields of my passions (occultism, magick, natural health, herbology, etc) and what steps to take next, hints at where the Universe will direct me. Also just about my future spiritual path in general, as I have taken several giant steps forward this month.I will later note some things I've noticed about it, but there are so many people in it! I'm not sure I've ever had this many court cards for myself in one reading before.Anyway, opinions are welcome. (Sorry about the janky image; it's all I've got to work with at the moment)Jun. 14th, 2006 @ 05:02 pm(9 comments | Leave a comment) |

I have never used a "significator" card before. I've read to in many books, but just never have. I doubt I will; perhaps I will do that with future decks, who knows.Does anyone wish to express their opinion on the importance of a significator card? Personally, I have often found it unnecessary.*And also, would anyone be opposed if readings were posted herein if opinions were wanted? If say, I were confused about what a reading meant? These would only be readings I did for myself.Jun. 14th, 2006 @ 10:01 am(3 comments | Leave a comment) |
» Witch's Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed |
Hi. I am a 31 year old Wiccan High Priestess recently married. I have been reading the tarot since I was 12 years old. I actually still read the very same deck I bought back then. Here is a site that features my deck: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/witches/I just googled it and this one has some good pictures. I am a secretary at ITT Technical Institute as my day job and I read tarot by night. I just love reading the tarot, especially for folks I don't know as it gives some insight about someone. I have actually never been trained on tarot reading nor have I taught myself by using the booklet that always comes with cards. I just lay the cards out and go with gut feeling. Anyway, on a break for my husband (I usually bring my cards to occupy folks that bust out of a poker tournament...husband is a dealer for a local company)I spread the cards out on the table and I had him randomly pick 6 cards. I was just curious as to the cards that would "call" to him. The High Priestess and the Magician came up with the 7 of cups in between them. Our current situation. The Priestess and the Magician represented us and the 7 of cups represented how we feel in our relationship. The next three cards were the Sun, the 10 of pentacles(?), and the 2 of pentacles. I am not sure what suit the middle card was, I would have to look at my deck. The second set of cards represented the future we want, children, a home to raise them in, and the money that will make the other two needs more feasable. Though not an enlightening reading, it showed me that we are definately on the same page with our "needs" (which I didn't doubt anyhow) but also that it is in our future. It made me smile.Jun. 13th, 2006 @ 11:08 pm(2 comments | Leave a comment) |
