keepers I tried over the holidays

Peg and I went to my daughter in law's mom's home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our contribution both times was desserts. (Peg makes the most fabulous cheesecakes)
This was a recipe I found in a magazine - easy with spectacular results:
Lemon-Berry Tart
1 tube refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1 jar lemon curd
2 pints fresh raspberries
fresh mint for garnish
Press sugar cookie dough into a tart pan, along the bottom and up the sides evenly. Bake at 350 degrees until shell is golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Rinse and dry raspberries, dry and set aside.
When tart shell has cooled, spoon the lemon curt into it and spread evenly. Place berries on top in an even layer and garnish with mint leaves.
This is an old recipe I remember making when I was a teenager:
Divine Kisses
16 whole graham crackers, crushed
1 can sweetened condensed milk
6 oz. Nestle's semisweet mini-chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8X8 baking pan.
Pour graham cracker crumbs into a bowl. Pour in sweetened, condensed milk, scraping as much as possible out of the can. Add chocolate chips. Fold the ingredients together with a spatula until they are well combined and pour into prepared baking pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown. When cooled a bit, cut into 16 squares because this is very rich!

I decided that for my christmas party I don't want to be in the kitchen the whole time cooking so we are going to do desserts, wines and horderves. What recipes always go over great at your parties?
The facts:
25-30 people for horderves, drinks and dessert
Ages ranging from 18-25
at our home
starting around 8pm
I've never thrown a party before. I need help. Anyone have any pointers?

Donation Request

Food Banks running short this year. Many are rationing, some have even had to close.
I wish I were one of those people who could offer to match donations, because I absolutely would for this. If you have any spare this season, please consider donating it to your local food bank, or to one of the state, regional or national kinds.
If you're churchy, many churches hold food drives this time of year. Help make yours one of the biggest!
If you're political, you can urge the passage of food-relief bills in congress.
It's easy to donate, and for most of us doesn't require a great sacrifice. See? You can:
-Snag an extra case of your favorite canned good from your local big box store and drop it at a can drive
-Donate at the register of many supermarkets
-Forego one dinner out this month, and donate the money you save to your favorite food cause
-Swear off Starbucks for the month (or even just downsize), and " " " "
-Hit a discount store like Aldi and buy canned stuff to donate
-Hit a grocery store supersale (10 for $10 is one I've been seeing) and donate.
America's Second Harvest is a national group that fills in gaps for local groups. You can donate directly to them, or you can find a local group to help out directly.
Most of us take having food for granted, but a lot of families and individuals can't - especially this year. Help 'em out if you can. Everyone should be able to eat.
ETA: Also, please spread the word on this issue. The more people donate, the more people get to feed their families.

My First Pressure Cooker

Over the weekend, I found great deal from Amazon on a pressure canner/cooker set, and it arrived yesterday. Today, I tried it out for the first time, and I am delighted to say that I made a fabulous, hearty, fall chicken soup in mere minutes. 10, from first intro into the pot till serving, to be specific. It took me much longer than that just to cut up the veggies.
I think this is my new favorite kitchen toy.

Potatoes

Potatoes are one of the most comforting comfort foods out there - and I love them. Hash browns, tater tots, potato soup, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato pancakes...it's pretty much a "you-name-it, I-love-it" kind of situation. I even have a potato cook book (I don't remember the name of it off the top of my head, and it's still packed).
How about y'all? Do you love potatoes? Hate them? Have a favorite dish? Let's get some discussion going here! :)
EDIT: How could I forget that my books are listed on LibraryThing?? This is the potato cookbook I have.
