satyrix "Why, Kobar! I didn't know you cared!"The voice was mocking, inhuman and chillingly familiar; Mene shifted, off balance after landing on Ash - no, better to think of it as Nyarlathotep, it wanted to be underestimated - after landing on the Thing's back, barely securing a headlock before one arm swept back preternaturally fast, attempting to pull him free. But, as their new friends on this world had advised, "Take on a human body, no matter how you power it up, and you take on its weaknesses." Taking a huge breath of his own, Mene shouted, "Whose idea was this, anyway?!" That's right, Kobar, He thought to himself, _Cover the fear with humor, keep moving, keep ALIVE._And Nyarlathotep, bastard son and first emissary of Cthulhu, laughed ~ and coughed, fighting for breath. "Now...," Lanna nearly whispered, but it was carried on currents of power drawn from Godstones and Megaliths, ancient and up from the deeps of this strange world; brighter than the electric lights they'd discovered here, faster and more powerful than the Mechanical Dragons they'd ridden as steeds, the energy flowed from her, pouring into Nari, who began to glow with golden light. They'd found themselves stranded here, unknowingly pulling Nyarlathotep with them; they'd become aware of his presence only after he'd begun wholesale slaughter, a world that had nearly forgotten magic giving him little more resistance than the one that was steeped in it.Then they'd discovered why this world had a well-worn path to it: a pair of legendary heroes from their own world had retired here, in a kind Kingdom called 'Suburbia', to raise a family far from the strange magics and violence of Harn.Lady Blackthorne Caverill-Tyler and her Husband, Sir Stephen 'Thunderbird' Tyler, were powerful and resourceful, nearly enough to stand against Nyarlathotep. Nearly, but not quite; they'd exhausted themselves in battle, distracting and provoking him into position for this last-ditch effort to work.Simon stepped forward, almost nonchalantly; related by more than blood to Nyarlathotep, he slashed his own wrist then stabbed deep into the Avatar's chest with the same blade. Their blood mingled even as Ashlin backhanded him from his feet, the Dark One's playful mask slipping as he realized that this was a threat not only to his success, but to his very existance.Throwing the Harnian Paladin from his shoulders with a shrug, the Avatar of Cthulhu stepped forward quietly, power blossoming in a dark wave about him ~ but seconds too late. Already, Simon had hijacked the energies within the Mad Jester; although only able to use them for seconds before madness and collapse would claim him, he did.At Simon's command, and with the energies of two worlds channelled by way of the ethereal remains of a dead God, the barrier blocking their world and this one fell. For the first time, the Mad Son of Cthulhu showed strain on the body he wore; shouting, he thrust both arms heavenward, gathering the shredded debris of his locked gate and weaving it together. Two heartbeats, and he began to grin madly; Lanna's face paled. She, more than any present, knew what would happen should Ashlin rebuild the barrier isolating them from the rest of reality. They sounded casually dull in comparison to the screaming, mad noises behind the battle ~ pop-pop-pop-pop-pop, flat and regular, but their effect was as great as any in this fight: doubling and clutching first his crotch then his chest, the creature they knew as Ashlin of Azathoth fell. And as the powers outside this world gripped it firmly again, Saffron Nic Baen smiled viciously from the grassy hollow where her body had been thrown, sighed, and gave herself finally to whatever comes after this life.It began subtly; the streetlamps swayed as if rocked by wind. The next wave was more powerful, and carried the scent of rage with it.Those still alive and conscious saw the unbelievable dawn in the face of He Who Would Devour The World, as reality dopplered and twisted out of his grasp: _Fear_A sudden burst of light, heat and sound, enough that some were sure the world had ended, then suddenly all was calm and quiet. And He spoke. "You," Aerik Caer-Caverill, The Dark Walker, Immortal Demon Slayer and Eldest Legend of Harn, growled, "Are. History." (comment on this) |

satyrix Okay, so... how about the weekend of June 14th? I'm thinking the group will be all of us from previous excepting Zac - I'm going to spin off yet another Harn reality: we'll be playing in the one where Drake dies in battle with Ash, although there will be another where it's undecided (it's only fair, after all) - and probably Neil: not that you're not a decent player, Neil, but I've got a longer history of gaming with your Mom, and the two of you at the same table throw each other off - one of you will have to sit out, y'see. That leaves us with the size group I prefer, five plus GM, with the ability to squeeze in another player if necessary - but it'd probably be better if we left that for next campaign. So. Writing of Start-up Sheets has commenced; doing Matt's first, actually - then again, the first gaming session will be all about overhauls and the opportunity to make changes in characters, that sort of thing: I'm going to reinstitute some of my old rules that I kinda flaked on, ones that would've had things running better for us.But, overall, I'm excited. Very muchly so; epiphany has come and brought a couple of lovely ideas - and the overall plotline will not be scrapped, prior to previous considerations. I just wasn't running it as playably as I could've, I believe.Ideas, opinions, suggestions, etcetera? (2 comments | comment on this) |

satyrix Now, I've learned from my past mistakes - and I'm of the opinion that it was mainly my errors that caused that campaign to fall flat (more on that in a separate post) - so I'm going back to my old rules:Five player maximum (at least to start... I usually get talked into accepting an additional player somewhere down the line...) and some restrictions on the characters that I didn't enforce before: there'll be some retooling available, so as to correct other things that didn't work out. Anyway, I'm leaning toward modifying and cleaning up campaign and charactersand then tackling this one like an old-school, all or nothing campaign. Though I'd love to do the three campaign serial system, it's not going to happen with this storyline - one of the biggest mistakes made was mismatching the plot with the characters: I dropped you guys into a 'returning plot' scenario that called for 5th to 7th level characters, causing burn out just about the time you got to the experience level needed to handle situations. If the game restarts, we'll pick up where we left off... Kinda. = ) (3 comments | comment on this) |

satyrix Once upon a time, in a place far from here and yet not long ago, a darkness was released upon an unsuspecting land. Despite incredibly long odds and being a handful against a God, a brave young group of adventurers met and tried to stop the Herald of Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep. They lost.Cthulhu has a foothold in our Harnworld Multiverse; all throughout, in the various dimensions, worlds and realms, the famous and infamous, the forgotten and the legends are feeling a faint concern and discomfort - a worry they can't place but keeps growing. They'll need your help. (1 comment | comment on this) |

satyrix So, it looks like we'll be returning to the Gaming Table on the 14th. To enter Prodigal Son: Endgame. When we left off, the group was facing Ash in their first face-to-face confrontation; there was confusion, intelligent choices, hesitation, brilliant support and fear, among other things: Drake Kent had initiative and was coming in FAST on that attack on Ash, Lanna had succeeded in one of the best misdirections of play I've seen in years (fooled Ash completely, it appears), Simon was advising excellent but ignored strategy, Mene was caught on the horns of a dilemma (what will he choose to do when initiative comes his way), Nari had seemed to come to a decision - what will she do?, and young Mr. Phoenix was running full tilt into the Shava Forest.I wasn't happy with how the plot engine seemed to work for the group, as I'm sure everyone was aware. So I scrapped it. Expect about a 119 degree turn as we restart, plus, hopefully, a new player or two. Oh, and don't worry - the intricate bits from Prodigal Son that I cleared out as unsuitable for the initial campaign will be seen in the second campaign of this three-part series, Princes of Darkness.current mood: accomplished (1 comment | comment on this) |

satyrix Really, it didn't seem like that impressive a parcel. Not even a foot square, it rattled on the back deck of the HPS truck, vibrating a little when the decompression governer on the engine kicked in, but otherwise acting like just another cheaply-shipped package. It was even a bit drab; the packaging was heavy brown paper, with a touch of a grease stain on one edge, and cheap tape and twine holding it shut. Crabbed, old-lady handwriting spelled out the address:Robert L. Kobarc/o Kobar Realtors241 Flask St., #4South Cinar, Rethem 98A 40LCertainly, it wasn't the sort of package to draw attention to itself; definately not the sort of thing to interest the powerful, the mighty, great governments and ancient hidden powers... or so one would think. Still, the powerful, the mighty, great (and, honestly, not so great) governments and a handful of ancient, hidden powers smelled its presence, sensed it on the move ~ and, quite promptly and predictably, lost track of it. After all, it was a little brown, slightly greasy parcel on the back of a ground-shipped HPS truck: who'd expect that? Certainly not Bobby Kobar; when the package arrived at his door, the only piece of mail in weeks not making a demand of some monetary kind, he puzzled over the return address. "Meredith Sunsune," he mused, his thinning, mousy brown hair lifting gently in some non-breeze, "Did I go to school with her? No..."He tapped the outside of the box. "Maybe some sort of plastic," he muttered, scratching a bit of the paper away. He shook the box; a vague ceramic tinkling came from inside...... and, just for a moment, he thought he heard someone giggle. (4 comments | comment on this) |

satyrix So, for the first time in a while I'm kinda jazzed about gaming: the pace will be picking up next game, I think. And, really, that's all I have to say; I'd like to hear your thoughts, though. Can we get a little observation and thoughts on what's happening? Oh, and a few of you will be receiving e-mails with pertinent information and such. When are we gaming again? The tenth? The fourth? Eh? (2 comments | comment on this) |
