In this work, we present for the first time a pack containing a mummified heart found in the mummification cachette of the Middle Kingdom official Ipi - item nr. MKTP 2480 of the Middle Kingdom Theban Project findings at Deir el-Bahari. After the inspection, it corresponds without any doubt to a desicated and exceptionally well-preserved human heart posibly covered by a resin layer. It presents a laceration in the right auricula with uprooting of both cavae veins. The whole piece, including ventricles, auricles and pulmonary trunk is indistinctly and tightly wraped in a very good quality cloth linen. The aortic root received a special treatment, beeing carefuly and independently wraped in a linen bandage as well as plugged with a bandage roll, giving to the piece a shape which resembles precisely that of the hieroglyphic representation of a heart. The exceptional preservation of both the piece and its wrappings is possible due to having been kept in a jar containing numerous natron packs.
We will provide a description of the organ, accompanied with high quality images, and will discuss the mummification practices involved as well as the Egyptological interpretation of the context in which the heart was found, suggesting some hypothesis for its location therein.

In this season, the archaeological
team focused on the mortuary complexes of both Henenu (TT 313) and Ipi (TT 315), with interesting findings such as the re-discovery of the mummification deposit for the vizier Ipi, originally located by Herbert Winlock and the Metropolitan Museum of New York in 1922, and the stepped ramp of Henenu. In addition, conservation and restoration activities were conducted in the sarcophagus chamber of Ipi while new works on the geology, architecture, and 3D reconstruction of the tombs were undertaken during the season.

Although its aetiology is still unclear, and given an assumed underlying genetic component, the autopsy becomes an essential tool for postmortem diagnosis of the disease and to give relevant medical advice to family members. A case of sudden death of a 39 year-old woman involving this aetiology is presented, and the medico-legal findings, as well as a discussion on the known family’s medical background.

ABSTRACT Comparative normative on sanitary practices of cadaveric preservation in Spain In this paper the current regulations on ca-daveric preservation practices required for the transfer of corpses in the different Autonomous Communities-Reglamentos de Policía Sani-taria Mortuoria-and national legislation are compared. The criteria taken into account have been: a) which sanitary practices are included in the regulations, b) which ones can be carried out in corpses posing a health risk, c) when they are compulsory to be carried out, d) when they can be carried out after death, and e) what professionals can carry them out and/or take responsibility for them. At the time of finishing the paper, a new mortuary regulation is being passed in Andalusia, as well as a decree from the Ministry of Health on technical and sanitary requirements concerning international transfer of corpses and human remains.

To what extent are the diagnoses made so far reliable? To what extent is the information in chronicles objective when dealing with his diseases? What can this medical recipe collection, a professional document, contribute to our knowledge of the king’s diseases? These are some of the issues we explore in this article.

The evolution of decay and water level marks suggested the circumstances in which the body had remained after death. Alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs where present at the scene, and a history of alcohol dependence was well recorded. No signs of violence by others or suicidal intent were found in the scene, so qualifying the death as unintentional and relatied to alcohol intake combined with various medications prescribed for chronic alcoholism.

This location is very rare in suicide cases. The weapon used is the replica of a muzzle-loading Remington Revolver with homemade ammunition prepared with easily available materials such as lead fishing weights, percussion primers, and black powder from firecrackers.

Expedition to Deir el-Bahari (Luxor) – in its fourth season (March-April 2018). In this season, the archaeological team expanded its concession, with the incorporation of two new areas in the eastern side of the necropolis of Deir el-Bahari (tombs TT316, MMA519, MMA520, and E1) and the Asasif cemetery (TT103, TT366). The expedition continued with its work in the mortuary complexes of Henenu (TT313) and Ipi (TT315), initiated the study of the tombs at the eastern area, excavated the entrance and main corridor of a new tomb (E1) in this part of the necropolis, and studied the epigraphic and architectural issues in the tombs of Dagi (TT103) and Djari (TT366).
