We develop the serious game Tempoly, concerning the learning of the four arithmetic operations on polynomials. A quasi-experimental study was carried out with 95 students of 8th grade, to evaluate the reactions of the students to the game, the effects of the use of the game in the students' learning, and the use of the game through time. According to data collected through a questionnaire, we may conclude that students liked to play the game, considered that the game helped them learning the polynomial operations and that what they learned in class was useful to play the game. It was concluded that students who played the game simultaneously with the classes improved their results in a pre/post-test more than the students who did not play the game and through a Mann-Whitney test, the results showed statistical differences. The study revealed that the students that had more time to play the game did play more out of the class.

As a result, speakers of different languages think and perceive the world differently. For decades, the debate was confined to the realm of educated speculation and reasoned introspection, with scholars taking positions for or against the hypothesis on the basis of conjecture and/or a priori logical assumptions (see e.g. Pinker, 1994; Dennett, 1991). One point of converging criticism, however, was that Whorf's evidence to support the Linguistic Relativity Principle was circular, since most of the data (language typological patterns) was simultaneously the outcome and the cause of the purported cognitive differences between populations. As Pinker put it, "how do we know that [Eskimos, sic] think differently? Just listen to the way they speak" (Pinker, 1994:61).

IE is inspired by Austin's seminal ideas on performatives and speech acts. According to IE, in the analysis of a paradigmatic illocutionary force we must essentially mention some aspects of the social and natural environment that cannot be reduced to the (de dicto) speakers' mental states, no matter how these are individuated. A difficult problem for IE derives from the possibility of making explicit the force of an utterance. This fact invites us to focus our attention on the utterer (the person who makes the force explicit) and his mental states (illocutionary intentions), and to support a mentalist approach in the study of forces. In this article I shall argue for the compatibility of IE with the phenomenon of the explicitability of illocutionary force

radical and implausible idea. Here, it is taken simply as the claim that linguistic
diversity (the different forms of human language) has a nontrivial impact on
cognitive diversity (the various ways or styles of thinking in humans). Although I
believe that some versions of it are plausible, the aim is not to defend or attack the
hypothesis, but to clarify it and to present some philosophical consequences of its
acceptance.

Examinamos, en primer lugar, una noción central en la obra de Fodor: la noción de "mecanismo". Defendemos entonces que, al menos para los llamados "casos-Frege", la propuesta de Fodor en The Blm and tite Expert (1994) no es satisfactoria.

After showing that they share the same formal types, I argue against there being purportedly fundamental differences between them in regard to explicitability, deontics, and illocution/perlocution. I conclude that the joint analysis of promises and threats suggests the propriety of a holistic theory of illocutionary acts.

In recent times, the notion is employed by some neoaustinian scholars to argue that the uptake is what triggers the deontic effects (rights, duties, obligations, permissions, etc.) associated to an illocution. Here, a distinction is made between two kinds of uptake: uptake-as-understanding and uptake-as-accepting, and the stance that the second is the one needed for a plausible theory of speech action inspired by Austin’s original ideas is defended. When that notion is adopted, some old problems about speech action can be clarified.
