Like most Brazilian cities are designed for road use, there is a need for solutions in infrastructure to behave this constant growth of vehicles. The traffic control need to be more efficient in order to reduce congestion in the process lines and intersections with high traffic flow. This paper deals with the installation of a traffic light at an intersection controlled by way of hierarchy and the comparison between the use of traffic lights with fixed time controller and variable time according to traffic demand. In the latter case, the light undergoes constant changes in cycle times and stages in order to better adapt it to the momentary needs of the pathways that converge to the intersection, reducing the waiting time and the vehicle queuing and congestion at times of peak demand.
