In Venezuela, however, this type of study is not frequent in comparison to works developed on other levels of language. In this work I present a brief outline of the most relevant research works on socio-phonetic variation that have been carried out in our country. To do so, I make particular emphasis on the analysis of two segments (/-n/ and /-s/) in post-nuclear position. About this last segment, I present the results I obtained from the analysis of 24 speakers' discourse. This sample was selected from the Corpus Sociolingüístico Preseea-Caracas 2004-2010. The results show that: i) the dialect of Caracas favors the aspirated realization of the post-nuclear /-s/; ii) the social variables of age group and level of education strongly contribute to the elision of that segment, as shown by the data obtained from the multivariate probabilistic analysis; and iii) the pre-pausal phonological context favors the elision of the segment in word final position, though this variant is the less common in the sample.
