In order to determine the rate of adsorption and the copper uptake at equilibrium, a series of experiments were performed under batch conditions from single ion solutions. Equilibrium data were evaluated based on adsorption (Langmuir and Freundlich) isotherms. The adsorption kinetics is reasonably fast. In the first 20 min of the experiment, approximately 80% of Cu 2+ ions is adsorbed from the solutions. Data obtained from the kinetic experiments have been described by the pseudo-second order kinetic model as well as by the Weber–Morris and Furusawa–Smith models.

Аdsorption by zeolites is currently considered to be very suitable for wastewater treatment because of its simplicity and cost effectiveness. The aim of this investigation was to compare adsorption efficiency of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Mn and Pb) from aqueous solution using two different types of natural zeolite: clinoptilolite from Bulgaria and stilbite from Macedonia.

In order to select the main rate-determining step in the overall uptake mechanism, a series of experiments was performed under batch conditions from single ion solutions. Data obtained from the kinetic experiments are interpreted in terms of pseudo-second order kinetic model, Weber and Morris model and model proposed by Furusawa and Smith.
The adsorption kinetics is reasonably fast. It means that in the first 20 min approximately 75% of Mn2+ is adsorbed from solutions. From the kinetic data, it can be concluded that adsorption of manganese ions from solution by natural zeolite is more efficient at higher adsorbent mass and at lower manganese concentration in solution. The amount of Mn adsorbed on zeolite increases at higher manganese concentration in solution.
From the kinetic models, it can be concluded that intraparticular diffusion is more likely to be the rate determining step, but at higher concentrations of Mn ions in solution, film diffusion may take a part in a rate determining step.

In order to determine the effectivity of clinoptilolite a series of experiments were performed under batch conditions from single ion solutions. Experiments were carried out at different initial concentration of lead ions, different initial pH values and different adsorbent mass.
The adsorption kinetics is reasonably fast. It means that in the first 20 min approximately 90% of Pb2+ is adsorbed from single ion solutions and equilibrium is achieved already after 20 min.

In the mean time, investigations are directed to the new possibilities of leaching by microorganisms – bioleaching. The paper is result of these technologies and investigations carried out for recovery of in the mentioned ores. The average grade from flotation process as a copper metal concentrate was cca 20-22% Cu, and recovery was up to 90-92%. The average recoveries from leaching were cca 90-93% for copper and the average recoveries from bioleaching were cca 93-95% for copper.

In the mean time, investigations are directed to the new possibilities of leaching by microorganisms – bioleaching. The paper is result of these technologies and investigations carried out for recovery of in the mentioned ores. The average grade from segregation-flotation process as a nickel metal concentrate was cca 80-90% Ni, and recovery was up to 80-85%. The average recoveries from leaching were cca 87-90% for nickel and the average recoveries from bioleaching were cca 93-95% for nickel.
