This research aims to design a supplementary English workbook by using songs as the media regardi... more This research aims to design a supplementary English workbook by using songs as the media regarding the target needs and learning needs. This research is classified into Research and Development (R&D) with a modified model by Borg and Gall. The held steps began with conducting a need analysis, composing the course grid, designing the first draft, getting an expert judgment, designing the final draft, and conducting a small-scale field test for the students in the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Gorontalo Utara as the subject of research. The data were obtained qualitatively and quantitatively through interviews and questionnaires. There were three questionnaires applied in this research which were administered to students' need analysis, expert judgment, and field test validation. The qualitative data were analyzed through essay description meanwhile the quantitative data were analyzed by using a statistical description. The output of this research is a workbook of unit 7 entitled Meaning Through Song which is designed based on students' target and learning needs. The unit consists of four parts of learning tasks, they are Let's Check Your Vocabulary, How Good is Your Tense ?, Let's Talk about Song, and How does It Sound Like?. Those learning tasks are orderly and purposed to assess students' vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening ability which are classified into cognitive and skill assessment. Based on the expert judgment result that consists of content, presentation, language, and graphics, the overall workbook design is categorized as highly appropriate with a Mean score of 3.68. The result is close to the field test validation gained from the students which is 3.63 categorized as highly appropriate.

Buginese is a local language in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is spoken in almost 60% of Sulaw... more Buginese is a local language in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is spoken in almost 60% of Sulawesi Island. This study aimed to explore the selection of linguistic variations and language acts as a linguistic model used by ethnic Buginese in establishing discourses of everyday socio-pragmatic interactions. It relied on a qualitative design to obtain the linguistic corpus that occurs empirically and naturally in communication interactions. This study used the snowball method by combining ethnographic strategies. The instrument used the Speaking Involvement Technique, in which the researchers were directly involved in people's interactions by paying attention to communicating situations, recording data, and conducting interviews for data validation purposes. All data or corpus of linguistic variations and speech acts collected were analyzed by the speaking strategy componential technique strategy developed by Dell Hymes. This study successfully discovers a model for identifying the Buginese ethnicity's linguistic variations and speech acts to build a discourse of communication interactions. The expressions of selection of linguistic variations and speech acts are dominantly based on polite sentence constructions and formulations, and ethically according to the local culture of Buginese ethnicity, namely the culture of siri. The results of this study can affect the enrichment of scientific information, which functions and acts as a meaningful reference in the field of linguistic studies, especially examining speech act variation in the expression of conversational discourse, in addition to being a foundation in the development of local content material and multicultural understanding.

Even though we are already in the era of face-to-face interaction in the teaching and learning pr... more Even though we are already in the era of face-to-face interaction in the teaching and learning process after going through the pandemic, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) is still enforcing online teaching and learning facilities through Akun Pembelajaran for the learning process in elementary, middle and high school. Akun Pembelajaran, or for some people known as akun belajar.id has also been used by the English teacher in SMP 1 State Junior High School in Gorontalo City. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using akun pembelajaran for SMP 1 Kota Gorontalo State Junior High School students in learning English. This research is quantitative and descriptive. The research sample employs purposive sampling through one class for 8 th-grade students and one class for 9 thgrade students. The data was collected by using an open questionnaire. The results showed that 72% of data state that the akun pembelajaran is convenient. Most of the students got the information about akun pembelajaran from the teacher while asking to do homework. Most of the students understand the functions and its benefits. 52% of data state that the students are interested in using akun pembelajaran although teachers do not ask them to do it. Meanwhile, 48% use akun pembelajaran, depending on the teacher's order. 77% of students need face-to-face learning to understand the subject better. It can be concluded that Akun Pembelajaran or akun pembelajaran effectively affects SMP 1 Kota Gorontalo State Junior High School students in learning English. The use of Akun Pembelajaran in Akun Pembelajaran is effective enough for the students in learning English. It can be a part of the "New Normal" era of the teaching and learning process.

Hum and Novi Rusnarty Usu, S.Pd., M.A This study aims to analyze psychological components which are portrayed through main characters of Lolita, a film by Adrian Lyne which was adapted from Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita. The method of this research is qualitative. The approach is psychoanalytic. Therefore the study is analyzed psychoanalytic points which derive from Sigmund Freud's theory of psychoanalytic. They are Structure of personality, defense mechanism, and stages of psychosexual development. The result of this study shows that there are three major component of psychological that reflected through the characterization of main characters, Humbert and Lolita. Overall, 34 data found which reflected the structure of personality (22 data), defense mechanism (8 data) and stages of psychosexual development (4 data). Humbert dominated of id and he represents six types of defense mechanism. They are rationalization, projection, regression, denial, reaction formation and displacement. Lolita is dominated of ego and she used one type of defense mechanism. It is displacement. Moreover, in stages of psychosexual development, Humbert identified has a trouble in oral stage meanwhile Lolita characteristic is influenced by her anal stage when she was a child. This study aims to investigate: (i) students characteristics based on their multiple intelligences (MI) tendency; (ii) gender differences on their MI tendency. The study was held on twenty-seven students of grade seven (eight males and 19 females) at SMP Negeri 4 Randangan Satu Atap in 2021-2022 academic year by using one-shot descriptive survey method. The MI inventory result showed that interpersonal intelligence was strongly developed and the other seven intelligence were developed. Considering this condition, the writer decided to analyze students’ need for learning listening at tenth-grade in Computer and Engineering Networking Department. Hutchinson and Waters (1987) theory used to analyze the Need Analysis in this study. The stressed aspects are Pursuit of happiness, Persistence, Self-reliance, Individualistic, and The way to wealth. This is a qualitative research. This tries to describe the aspects of American Dream in The Great Gatsby by using sociological approach. This study is started by an assumption that the collapse of American society is caused by the condition as shown in novel The Great Gatsby. So then, where is the American Dream? This question leads this writing in studying the values of American Dream as reflected in The Great Gatsby. The result of this analysis shows that, The Great Gatsby, a novel written by F.
