Through in-depth interviews and observations, it sheds light on the three different types of Turkish families’ beliefs, language practices, planning strategies, current implementations and affecting factors of heritage language policies. Our analysis uncovers the complexities of FLP, its profound outcomes and the contributing factors which outline families’ approach towards Turkish. The results show that the family's heritage language policies are influenced by the combination of various factors, including language anxiety, family dynamics, perception of language-related concepts, parental roles, past experiences, peer and sibling dynamics, misperceptions, parents’ awareness and attitudes, external forces, and the sense of belonging. The main finding is that the dominant home language within all families is German. This thesis, however, focuses on the intricate mechanisms manifested in the language policies of three families positioned at the points of ‘completed transition’, ‘processing transition’ and ‘unequal language mix’ on the language continuum scale rather than the policy outcomes as ‘maintenance’ and ‘dominance’.
