In our research, our goal was to investigate some of the general key competences of higher education students in the fields of engineering and IT. We have developed a competency measurement tool that includes sections on reading comprehension, data interpreting, communication, problem solving, abstract, analytical thinking, and basic technical skills. This study presents two of these tools, the of communication and reading comprehension based on the results of a recent pilot test. The test of communication skills is used to test the ability of university students to communicate information effectively in order to reach their destination and understand it. Communication is one of the most important skills in the workplace. Without it, it is impossible to work in teams, manage clients, do business. The study on reading comprehension measures the students' accuracy, attention to details, ability to concentrate, focus, systematize their thinking, and their ability to synthesize.

The salt precipitation is followed by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) to separate the diastereomeric salts and the unreacted enantiomers. To evaluate the extraction efficiency, conversion and enantioselectivity achieved, it is essential to determine the enantiomer excess and the residual resolving agent content in extracts and raffinates. Carefully chosen experimental parameters enable the simultaneous determination of certain anions and cations in capillary electrophoresis in a single run, which has not been reported for diastereomeric mixtures so far. In this paper, a partially validated chiral selective cyclodextrin enabled capillary electrophoresis method is presented for the characterization of cis-permethrinic acid samples resolved with (R)-1-phenylethylamine prepared by the SFE-based resolvation technique. To evaluate the efficiency of the resolvation, a cyclodextrin enabled chiral separation method was developed applying permethylated-β-cyclodextrin as chiral selector. The theoretical possibility of the widespread application of the developed method (with minor adjustments) is justified for other selectands and selectors. The developed methods can be thereby applied for the fast and reliable control of resolvation experiments.

The cyclodextrins (CDs) have extremely broad chiral selectivity spectra because they have several different chiral recognition sites in various arrangements and various interaction modes. Their chiral selectivity features can further improve with their various substitutions. Their selectivities are moderate therefore they need high efficiency separations (capillary columns) for good chiral resolutions. The shape selectivity of cyclodextrins is also shown with non-chiral isomers too. The utility of the cyclodextrins is demonstrated with several examples based on the personal observations of authors and critical review of literature. The theoretical backgrounds of their chiral recognitions (e.g. H-bond interaction, inclusion, induced fit) are discussed in depth. This paper is not application oriented but is dealing with mostly on the physical and chemical bac...

Depend on this objective of environmental engineering BSc education is to develop competences like complex system approach, problem recognition and resolution, lifelong learning and responsible attitude for the environment in addition to high level scientific knowledge. To achieve this goal, besides professional academic training, environment education needs to be implemented, where project pedagogy –as the strategy of environment pedagogy-can be efficiently applied. The study aims to prove the effectiveness of project education in terms of professional knowledge as well as in environmental attitudes by the results of project and practical training with an ecological-minded. This paper elaborates a field practice in Aggtelek National Park, Hungary. Based on the results it can be stated, that project pedagogy and the field practice can be well integrated with traditional pedagogical methods and may become their efficient supplement in environmental engineering BSc education

A large amount (approximately 15,000 tonnes annually worldwide) of this compound is released into the environment. This paper deals with the determination of 1,4-dichlorobenzene in a variety of environmental matrices. Various extraction and concentration methods such as charcoal absorbtion tubes and headspace sampling were applied. Sensitive and selective ion monitoring GC-MS measurements were used for determination. Significant concentrations of the compound have been identified in lavatory air, waste water, waste water sludge and human breast milk.

CE has unique advantages in chiral analysis. The most frequently used chiral selectors are CDs in this field. This paper gives a short view on the advantages on CE in direct chiral separations, emphasizing the role of CDs. The reason for the broad selectivity spectra of CDs is discussed in detail. The physical background of chiral selective separations is briefly shown in CE. Their interaction mechanisms are shortly defined. The general trend of their use is statistically evaluated. Most frequently used CDs and CD derivatives are characterized. Advantages of ionizable CDs and single-isomer derivatives are shown. The general trend of their use is established.
