Electropolymerization has been carried out by several electrochemical techniques and the results are compared. In particular, the pulsed potentiostatic method was able to provide layers with sufficient amounts of material. Cyclic voltammetries showed reversible behavior towards both p-and n-doping. The HOMO, LUMO, and bandgap energies were estimated to be −5.3, −3.6 and 1.8 eV, respectively. In situ UV-Vis measurements have established that the presence of the vinylene group stabilizes the formation of polaronic charge carriers even at high doping levels.

Experiments were carried out in a wide range of temperature (650 – 1000 °C) and CO/CO2 gas mixture composition (75% - 9% CO).Results are reported and compared with those obtained, in the same conditions, with a porous platinum electrode made from Hanovia 6082 platinum paste.

The e.m.f. as a function of chlorine partial pressure (9.2-1044 Pa) and temperature (70-340 "C) has been measured. Departures of the experimental from the theoretical values are observed. Preliminary experiments on response time have been carried out and the relevant data in terms of a normalized function containing a phenomenological parameter are presented.

Research paper thumbnail of Segregation of Impurities at Grain Boundaries and Other Compositional Inhomogeneities in Chill-Casted Silicon Ingots

Fourth E.C. Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference, 1982

ABSTRACT An investigation has been conducted on the possibility of segregating the residual impur... more ABSTRACT An investigation has been conducted on the possibility of segregating the residual impurities in a matrix o solar cell-grade silicon, through a crystallization process that is carried out either far from equilibrium conditions or with a residual impuritiy content that exceeds solubility limits. Chemical analyses, together with SEM, X-ray microanalysis and Auger spectroscopy, indicate that residual impurities segregate either at grain boundaries or within single grains, in the manner of silicides. In view of this, chemical bonding is identified as the driving force for excess impurity removal. It is suggested that grain boundaries may act as sinks for impurities, although it is also possible that infragranular precipitates coalesce in a network of subgrain boundaries. The local density of precipitates varies with the thermal history of a crystal.

Research paper thumbnail of About the use of non stoichiometric CeO2 as oxygen sensitive electrode in an electrochemical solid state oxygen meter

Gaseous mixtures with molar ratio CO/CO2 from 3:1 to 1:3 have been investigated in the 600–850°C temperature range. The performance of this oxygen electrode has been proved better than that of the porous platinum one, because it shows a comparatively better accuracy and a faster time of equilibration with the gaseous atmosphere.
