Looking for an ideal hairstylist in town | [Jan. 30th, 2007|02:29 pm]Union County - New Jersey |
---|---|
[mood** |curious] [music** | Joe Strummer & Mescaleros]Can someone recommend a great place to get a haircut in Union County (preferrably Kenilworth)? The last hairstylist I went to did a wonderful job, but went a little scissor happy. Right now my length is perfect, I just need a trim/shaping, rather than an actual cut. Also, I'd like someone who is personable. I have thin hair (but a lot of it, so it looks a lot thicker in the photo) and I'm so sick of hairstylists commenting on how thin my hair is and calling it "baby hair." I think it's so unprofessional to insult your client. (Perhaps they do this so you keep going back to them, but honestly -- that is what keeps me away! I never went back to a hairstylist who made me feel uncomfortable like that.) So, yeah, someone who does a good job and is NICE! :)Thanks in advance :) |

Raving about an eye doctor in Kenilworth | [Jan. 2nd, 2007|02:20 pm]Union County - New Jersey |

[**mood** |thankful]I just want to rave about an eye doctor I found in Kenilworth, Dr. Lois Fiore: http://drfiore.net/I've been wearing contact lenses for a million years and never had a problem. Last Wednesday I had an eye infection and was very scared because this never happened before. I still work in the town I used to live in, Montclair, and am sad to say, not one eye doctor would make the time to see me! (Not to mention attitude problems I had to deal with -- it's a wonder these doctors stay in business!!) Thursday evening the infection was so painful that I decided I would leave work early on Friday if I could find a doctor in Kenilworth (where I've been living since late October). Since I work a lot, I am still not to familiar with the Kenilworth area, but I know the main boulevard and found Dr. Fiore in the yellow pages.Lucky for me, busy as she was, Dr. Fiore squeezed me in! Dr. Fiore and her husband, who also works there, were very compassionate and personable. After my eye exam (which turned out to be only a minor thing that I needed drops for, for a few days), Dr. Fiore answered all my questions.I did not feel rushed at all. She wrote me a perscription and I felt better that very evening.I've decided to make Dr. Fiore my new official eye doctor and am going back this spring to treat myself to new glasses! ***And as unrelated aside ... wow, Kenilworth sure does a fantastic job with Christmas decorations! And I adored the nativity scene in town on Christmas Eve. I'm totally loving Kenilworth! | |

[**mood** |chipper]My first week living in Union County and I'm thrilled.I haven't seen much yet, but there are a few things I'm super impressed with:1. I LOVE the way people really go out of their way to decorate for Halloween around here. Two homes in particular were like visiting a spookhouse, complete with fog! 2. The Shop Rite in Garwood rules! A ton of organic produce, plus raw/cultured sauerkraut that I could only find at Whole Foods in NYC prior! 3. The Union Plaza Diner!! Wow, the menu is at least 20 pages long. Sunday I ate there for both breakfast and dinner. The options are wonderful for the health conscious. I had the option of having carrots in my egg omelette! And for dinner I love their organic salad with salmon. Very happy living in this area :) | |

Organic produce/health food shops | [Oct. 20th, 2006|02:22 pm]Union County - New Jersey |
---|---|
Hi, I just joined the community.I'll be moving to Union County at the end of the month and I'm in search of the best places to get organic produce. So far I only know of the A&P in Kenilworth and the Shop Rite in Cranford.Anywhere else? Any farmer's markets? What about health food stores? And if there's an organic co-op that I can join that would be super wonderful! Thanks in advance :) | |
